Receive Blessings

We have looked at how generous and patient Jesus is being with those two sad disciples. We have noted the Beginning and the Bounty and today we wish to look at the Blessing.  Before we do that however, promise was made that we would focus, just for a bit on the phrase, all the Scriptures.

All the Scriptures, began with Moses, liberator of the children of God. They then continued and ended with all the prophets, chosen men and women who were God’s mouthpiece to God’s children and for His children. Jesus never omitted even one set of the Scriptures. Jesus was not just versed in the Scriptures of God, but He was the very embodiment of God and the things of God. When put like this, does it not truly bathe you, cover you and fill you with the unsearchable treasures of the Word? Receive it in this voice. If truly, Jesus is the Living Word, the Living Scriptures, then He never kept back any part of Himself from those two disciples. All the Scriptures were expounded to them. Will not the same One Lord and God, as Holy Spirit, expound all things to us also? 

The Blessing

The things concerning Himself.

All the Scriptures were expounded to them so that all about Himself was fed to them. Can’t you just see Jesus blessing them with every single word He feeds to them? Every single word concerning Him, Jesus, the Living Word, is sweet, satisfying and sanctifying in all areas. Our voices give frequent air to these words, when we are alone and when we join with other voices to sing these hymns of faith. These are hymns that profess the Name of Jesus as the sweetest Name we know, how each day with Him is sweeter than the day before and how He grows sweeter as the days go by, sweeter as the moments fly. O how we acknowledge that it is sweet to trust in Jesus and the sweet fellowship divine there is with Him, when I am His and He is mine. Indeed the list can go on and on, for Jesus is sweet in all His parts. 

Sweetness without measure, minus meanness and meagerness, is what the disciples are being fed. Note this! When Jesus spoke about things concerning Himself, faith gives us freedom, wisdom, and perfect fear and humility to receive God in Trinity. In other words, to expound the Scriptures is to fully bless His children, His disciples, with Living words about Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Are not the Scriptures about, God in Creation of the World; God in the Salvation of His world; God in Covenant with His people; God convicting and convincing His people; God Incarnate, as the Sacrificial Lamb; God justifying, sanctifying and indwelling all who accept and receive Him personally, God who will come again to judge the living and the dead; God, with whom to spend eternity, is life everlasting?

Yes indeed! The unsearchable, unfathomable and uncalculated riches of the Scriptures – Father, Son and Holy Ghost – cannot but be richness, fullness, health, strength and quickening of heart, mind, soul and spirit, to all who will take it. We believe it to be true for the very infallible and ever powerful Scripture captured those two spiritually undernourished, weak and fruitless lives. They were so quickened, their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. Luke 24: 31.

Blessings of the Spirit are never rationed to you. God came down to us incarnate, in Jesus, when we were all in desperately bad shapes. He came down from heaven to us here on earth, when we were undernourished, malnourished, starving, polluted in our own blood and totally ignorant about our spiritually dying and dead condition. He made a forever Statement, to the entire sin-sick, sinful world, when He hung on a cursed cross of sin, to be propitiation for us sinners. He made an even more piercing and life-giving statement when He rose from the grave, ascended back to heaven, where He intercedes for us daily, but returned in Spirit to dwell in power, in the lives of all who will believe. He has one final statement to make when He shall come again to judge the quick and the dead. There is definitely nothing mean and meagre about our Lord, or what He offers to us all.
