God's People

And when you saw that Nahash king of the Amorites came against you, you said to me, No, but a king shall reign over us, when the LORD your God was your king.
The questions previously asked were these. Where do we stand today? Who are we in the whole scheme of things? The majority of us are not Jews who belong to the nation of Israel. Nevertheless, we are still God’s people. The same God of Israel is our God. And He has also made us His children. We know, believe and accept this fact, because of what Scripture tells us and because our own faith in Jesus confirms it. Our God, is Israel’s God, having predestined us to the adoption of sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will. Ephesians 1: 5. We are God’s children, just as Israel was and still are God’s children.
Let’s listen to more of what is being told about you and me being the people of God. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love. Ephesians 1: 3 - 4. The single intention here, is for us to see that just as God was pleased to carve out a nation for Himself, from all the nations in the world, it is the same with us. He was pleased to call many people from all different nations, His own. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1: 12 -13. KJV. All therefore, who believe in Jesus, know the power to become God’s children.
Let's continue receiving, in the firm understanding and sure belief that through Jesus, we are children of God.
Now, let’s reason this together. If therefore, we are children of God, called and chosen by Him, as the Israelites were, then should we expect any less from our Father? Our Father called the Israelites to be a peculiar people, a people holy unto Him. Does not our shared Father want the same for us? Peter readily reminds us of who we are to God. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2: 9 - 10. Herein is our statement of conviction. We are the present people of God, just as the Israelites long ago were. They still are God’s chosen, and so are we.
Now we return directly to our text, as quoted above. Let’s continue to pay keen attention to these words of Samuel, God’s earthly servant, in his coronation speech. This is the part of Samuel’s speech which has convicted me. You said to me, No, but a king shall reign over us, when the LORD your God was your king.
Samuel’s words are being used to marshal us to quickness of attention and action, as Teacher Holy Spirit targets each one of us individually and as believing groups. He and He alone convicts us to the core and brings us to truth in Him. What would make God’s people, who have been ruled by Him as their King, now seek to have an earthly king rule them, instead of their Heavenly Father and King?
We approach this tomorrow.
