Mean And Meagre

Yesterday, contrast was made with carnal sweets and spiritual sweets. Lack of spiritual sweets is a sure threat to our growth in wisdom, stature and in favour with God and others. God, our heavenly Parent, has lavishly provided us with His sweet word and for us to be mean and meagre in our feeding is an affront to Him. All we are doing is making ourselves anorexic and gaunt, children who are malnourished, undernourished and ill-nourished. With our Father in heaven, we can never have too much of His sweets.

I had used the term m&m’s and that was deliberately done. We know that the term or name refers to sweets, but I am actually speaking about something different, where the name itself, m&m, has a completely different meaning. About what am I speaking? This all came to a living reality from the verse of a poem which was given to me by Teacher Holy Spirit. Here it is.

May our minds be uplifted,
Father God has us gifted,
With Holy Spirit power,
As on us He did shower,
No mean and meagre measures,
His unsearchable treasures,
Through Holy Spirit guiding,
In Jesus, full abiding.

My eyes were drawn to m&m, mean and meagre, as I distinctly heard this. Your heavenly Father does not want you to be given mean and meagre measures of His sweets. The verse tells us that God our Father has given us the Gift of His Holy Spirit, showering us with His unsearchable treasures, in incalculable measures. No mean and meagre measure, speaks of abundance, or unmeasured and unlimited treasures.

It’s simple really, and perhaps childish and infantile for many, but for me, and all who receive our Lord’s words simply, this is certainly a sweet treat, or sweet treats for us. The entire understanding of God’s word is just this, as has been indicated previously. Perhaps we need to hear it again. I certainly do! Just as good parents do not want their children to be fed too many sweets and treats, since they are detrimental to the health and precious growth of their children, so too with our God.  He is our Leader, our Father and our Shepherd, who does not want us, His born-again children, eating meanly and meagrely, the sweet, Scriptural treats which have been so lavishly offered to all who are His. We are encouraged to eat to our satisfaction.

When Jesus fed the multitude, was He not lavish in His feeding? Five thousand men, besides women and children, all hungry people, were fed. This is what is reported. So they all ate and were filled. Matthew 14: 20a. I ask you this. Was that any mean and meagre feeding?

I now put this to you. Will our Shepherd, Father and Lord, be so lavishly generous with food for the body and not be as generous with food for the soul and spirit?

Tomorrow, we continue to be reminded of more of what we know.
