God's Word

On this first Lord’s Sunday in a new month, we pause for a bit. We take a little time out to deal with all that we want to deal with, and things we would rather not deal with.
Yes! We are quite conscious that this is the first Lord’s Day Sunday in July, the month that begins the second half of the year, that’s on its downward descent. It’s like one of those very high roller coaster rides, which gives you a nice ride up to the top. It then lingers on that peak for a second or two, then plunges you down with heart-stopping speed. O the screams and shouts and cries and more, which come from the lips of the scared. What am I really saying? To what am I making reference? I’m saying lots, but I offer you just two of the most poignantly important points.
The first is that the year is rolling along at lightning speed and we have come to the halfway mark. I invite you to take this week as the little halt, the pause, the deep breath, before you exhale and go speeding to the end of the year, as the days seem to go rushing by with rollercoaster speed. The second point is specifically addressed to all who are, like some on the rollercoaster, fearing the descent into the end of the year. It is for all who are feeling real pangs of fear and anxiety, as you are threatened by the fast-moving speed of time. Is this for you? Do you feel as though you’re unable to keep up, asking, where has the time gone? I encourage you to turn your heart, mind and soul to the Word of God.
Let me hasten to add that I am in no way suggesting that you do not know the Word of the Lord, or that you do not feed on it. Not in the least, am I saying such a thing. What I am saying however, is that in times of anxiety, uncertainty and worry, encouragement offered in the Word of God, will help to bring ease, comfort and peace. Here’s a scenario.
The cross-country marathon race is on and runners are going through all kinds of terrain. Many a runner finds himself or herself alone at times, but that’s okay, for each has a bottle of refreshing water, sipping as is needed. As it happens, you are driving along a lonely country road, when you spot a runner lying on the side of the road. You stop, realizing the plight of the runner. You help him to sit up and offer him a bit of water from his bottle, which he is carrying over his shoulder. The man was knocked off his feet, when something scared him. He was so terrified, he did not even remember the water he had with him, to take a sip even and settle himself.
There are times when, for whatever reason, we are knocked off our faith feet and we need someone to bring to us the Word of God which we know, but need to have it fed to us.
This week I’m offering God’s Word to those who need to return to their feet of faith, to be able to travel victoriously and resolutely through the second half of this year, in triumphant walk.
