Particular Rest

The LORD grant that you may find rest, each in the house of her husband. Ruth 1: 9a.

We concluded yesterday’s offering by stating that this rest was not found in your house or any other house, but the house of Jesus, your Husband. You are the Church and the Church is the Bride of Jesus. Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Revelation 19: 7 – 8. Indeed, the Body of believers is the Bride of Jesus.

We also noted with expectation, I might add, that specifically particular, peculiar and productive rest is only found in the house of your husband. We shall receive on each one separately. 

Particular Rest

This rest is specifically particular for these reasons. It is not found in yourself or your house, regardless of how self-efficient, methodical, careful and progressive you may be. It is not found in the house of another family member, no matter how close-knit your family relationship. It is not had from friends, regardless of how devoted, religious and kind they may be. This rest is peculiar to Jesus, as it is only found in Him, in His house, or place.

Again, this rest is from a particular place and Naomi knows it. In her aged wisdom, although she is encouraging the two young women to return home, her prayer is not for them being home. Her prayer blessing is for them being away from their homes and being in the house of a new husband. This is particularly, rest with another husband, a new and different husband.

Is this not akin to the special rest God promises to His own people who abide in His Presence? And He said, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Exodus 33: 14. This is not rest as the Hebrew children once knew it, under the bondage of Pharaoh, their slave master. There they had a sometimes rest. They were slaves to a cruel master and worked slavishly with little or no rest at times. There was no rest of peace and assurance of a better life. They had come to know a hard rest, a sometimes rest, a restless rest and worst of all, a hopeless rest. Now dead to the union with that wicked, evil, slave master, they are now perfectly free to know and have rest with God in His abiding Presence.

Is this not the exact rest, no variations, which we who have died to sin and live with Jesus, have in Him? Not in ourselves, our families, our relations, our friends, or our religious leaders, will we know the blessing of this rest. It is rest, only had in the Place of Jesus.

Our minds are drawn to Moses, God's faithful servant and His promise-blessing to him at a very scary time in Moses’ life. God has given Moses a task beyond his ability and Moses did not hesitate to humble himself before God and plead his inability, weakness and incompetence. Moses fell down before God, with a humble heart and earnestly prayed. Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. Exodus 33: 13a. When God responds to His servant, this is what He says. My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Exodus 33: 14b. Is this not a particular rest that God gives to Moses? Is not this rest for all of us, believers, who seek it? The Lord is our new Husband. We have been blessed with Particular Rest.
