Captain

What an absolute privilege! What a wonderful, awesome and totally unmatched God we serve! God, our Creator Father has chosen to give you to see this moment, called today. He gave you yesterday, and about tomorrow, you do not know if it is His will that you will be given it. Nevertheless, this you certainly do, know, you have been given this present moment called, now. May this, now time, be lived to the fullest.
On this first day of a new beginning, a new week, whether we shall have this week or not, it remains the first day of a new week and we cannot but give Father, Sovereign God thanks for bringing us to this port of call.
From where I live, very early on designated mornings in the tourist season, I can see the cruise liners as they sail into port. Whether they are gigantic, with great numbers of passengers and crew, or smaller vessels, with much less tourists and crew, I see them all. Each time I see one, or more than one at a time, without fail, my mind is taken to our Captain whose Name is, Holy Spirit. Then and there, regardless of what I’m doing and what has been on my mind, in my thoughts, before looking out to the now dawning morning, I give reverence, honour, and singular praise to God. This is what I say to our Lord, with grateful joy in my heart.
Lord, some captain has brought his vessel safely to this new port, called Bridgetown, even as perhaps many on the ship may be still sleeping and many will be up waiting to see the sun rise. You are my Captain, Holy Spirit, and You have brought me safely to see this new port, called today.
Then I go on to think on this most, life-calming and life-healing fact. Regardless of where passengers go during this day, they have to ensure that they return to the captain and his ship, for he is the one to take them back out to sea, on the way to another destination.
Is this not true of Holy Spirit, our Captain? He brings us to this day and regardless of how we spend our time called, today, our time called now, we must return to Him. Whether we have been obedient, pleasing and faithful to God, or we have been vile, ungrateful and disorderly in our conduct, we all need to return to Captain Holy Spirit, who brought us to the beginning of this new day.
Whatever day this is for you and whatever time of day or night you may be reading this offering, know this as a fact. Holy Spirit has brought you to this day and He is the One to take you out of this day. Wherever you and I are, in this time called today, we need to acknowledge God, the Holy Spirit, our Captain.
This can only happen, when we have our minds not fixed on the ways in which the world thinks, but we have minds renewed by the same Spirit, who has brought us to this day.
Let us therefore give God thanks for His infallible Word and let us, with earnestness, sincerity and truth seek minds that are un-conformed to the world’s thinking.
May we hear and heed these words of wisdom and warning, from Paul, the Apostle, who gave up all his past ways of thinking. He was once Saul, the Pharisee, a Pharisee of Pharisees at that, with his high scholarship and elevated words, in auspicious circles. However, when he was captured by Captain Holy Spirit, when he received a clean heart and a changed mind, he gave up all his past ways of thinking, seeking always to think and talk only Christ and Him Crucified and Risen.
Will you spend a moment to contemplate in newness of heart and mind, these very familiar and well-known Scripture verses?
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think: but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Romans 12: 2 - 3
All praise and thanks to our Captain Holy Spirit.
