The Promiser

As we come to receive this day’s offering, we ask that God will continue to persevere with us, to keep our hearts surrendered to Him, our minds focused on His Word and our entire beings in submission to His Ways. We ask for the distinct, unsurpassable grace of accepting and advocating inner peace, in these most divinely rich words, as previously stated. These are the comforting, embracing and calming words of Jesus to His own. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14: 27. Every promise of Jesus is to be believed and trusted.

We delight in speaking of God – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit - as our promise making and promise keeping God. We know that God, the Infinite One, makes promises to people, finite as we are. God, who is Creator, makes promises to His creation, His creatures, you and me. Albeit, this depth of commitment, this most incomprehensible and totally mind-blowing show of God, leaves us as dead. This is what I mean.

Here is God, who has made a promise to Abraham, His child, and God makes that promise with an oath. For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself. Hebrews 6: 13. God is not a Man to be fickle in His promises. He is not a human to be plagued by human unfaithfulness and changes of heart. Does this not leave you totally exposed, weak, helpless and utterly silenced, when you see how God treats a mere man?  I mean, who are humans that God would want to humble Himself in such a Holy and Divine matter as His promises? Who is our God that He should be so mindful of us?

This makes it even more above and beyond us, when we think that Abraham never asked for God to swear to him that He would be faithful to His promise. Abraham would never be so crazy, even in his wildest mind, to even dream of doing such a thing. Why is this the case? It is definitely so, because Abraham was a man of undiluted and undisputed faith in God. His was genuine, great faith that really pleased God.

We are told about God’s unfailing faithfulness to His promises, His covenants with His creation, all through the Bible. Here is one upholding fact, as recorded in Deuteronomy 7: 9. Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments. How can we stand before a God whose faithfulness to His promises is concretely anchored in His immutability? Who are you, O mortal man, O mortal woman; who am I, O imperfect creature, to even consider, or have the thought to be questioning, and be a little uncertain even, about God’s promises to us?

God - Father, Son and Holy Ghost - snatch me away from my total sinfulness in the matter of Your promises. Take my unbelieving, carnal mind and heart, and please create in me newness, Your newness. Teach me to hold fast to every profession and confession of hope in You, without ever wavering in the least part, for whatever You promise, You are unfailing in Your faithfulness to perform. Amen!

It is with subdued and willing spirits that we return to these Words of Jesus, with anchor-holding faith. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5: 9.

Note the wisdom of Jesus when He opened His mouth and taught His disciples, about peacemakers. There was His Pronouncement, accompanied by His Promise. He stated categorically that happy were those who were peacemakers. Why happy? They are happy or blessed in that they have been endowed with the rich estate and honour of son-ship with Father God. The direct result of being peacemakers is this immovable, immutable, and reliable promise, to be called God’s children. Notice clearly that they will be called God’s children. In other words, this is God’s designation, God’s design, God’s desire and God’s doing. There is absolutely nothing of human input in this grace of Almighty God.

I want to delve deeper into this promise, as there is much wealth and wisdom, just waiting for us to receive.
