The Promise

With much excitement and anticipation, we plunge headlong into the promise as we are enabled by the Holy Spirit, Himself. Here is our Lord’s promise, given freely to all who are peacemakers. They shall be called sons of God. To take Jesus at His Word therefore, is to take God at His Word. Jesus has said to His disciples exclusively, that peacemakers are not just blessed, but the promise is that they shall be called sons of God. Understood, is also daughters of God.
We are all sons and daughters of God, or sons and daughters of the devil. As God’s children, we are sons and daughters of heaven and as the devil’s children, we are sons and daughters of hell.
Jesus, in denouncing the scribes and teachers of the law for their misleading and damaging leadership, in the Name of God, called them sons of hell. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. Matthew 23: 15. Clearly, many a self-righteous and law-abiding servant of God is a child of hell, when the keeping of the letter of the law, kills the living of its spirit. There is more to show that we who worship God without Spirit and Truth, are sons and daughters of the devil.
Jesus again, categorically denounces some devout, God-fearing Jews whose worship and works were all dead in Spirit and in Truth, as they were totally blind to who Jesus was. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. John 8: 43 – 44. Indeed, whether you and I care to believe Jesus or not, this is undiminished truth. There are those who are children of God and there are those who are children of Satan, who live in this world, in carnal, human flesh.
To His disciples, Jesus has promised that all peacemakers will be called sons of God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Who then are peacemakers? Are you a peacemaker? Am I a peacemaker? We know of peacemakers in terms of how the world thinks and I have learnt and continue to learn, by all kinds of God-prescribed means, some most sobering lessons, to say the least, which show clearly that God does not think as the world does. God’s thoughts are not human thoughts. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. Isaiah 55: 8. This refers to all our thoughts, including those people whom we hold and exalt as peacemakers, and whom God calls peacemakers.
Who is a peacemaker in the Father’s Eyes? Only His Beloved Son and our Divine Saviour, Jesus Christ. Then to whom is Jesus referring, when He so openly and boldly gives such a high and lofty promise to mere sinful, human beings? How can He tell people, human beings, whose hearts are evil, cantankerous, rebellious and deadly deceitful that peacemakers can be found among them?
Yes my friends! That is exactly what Jesus is saying, when He tells His disciples, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Is He not saying that from among us, unworthy creatures, there can be peacemakers? Is Jesus not saying to all who are His that among mortals, God, the Immortal Invisible, has chosen to call them His sons and daughters? Is not Jesus giving heavenly, Spiritual blessedness to earthly, carnal, lowly creatures? O! Who is a God like our God! Who is a Lord like our Lord Jesus! Who is a Spirit, like our Holy Spirit!
