The Sweet Name of Jesus, is manna to the hungry soul.
Jesus has been on the shore preparing breakfast for His disciples. This is the third time that He is showing Himself to them, after He rose from the grave. Jesus knows that they are physically hungry, for they have been at sea all night and even now, at the break of dawn He has sent them back to catch fish. He knows that they are spiritually hungry, for they have been for three days without Him and are empty.
The disciples know it is Jesus, when He invites them to partake of His cooked breakfast of fish and bread. Jesus said to them, come and eat breakfast. Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, Who are You? – knowing that it was the Lord. John 21: 12. They all know the Sweet Name of Jesus, on that early morning on the beach, for they knew it was the Lord. Faith gives us eyes to see how Jesus feeds the hungry body and soul. Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish. John 21: 13. The breakfast of bread and fish, breaks the night’s fast and energises them to face the day before them, for it satisfied physical hunger. In doing this, do you see the absolute power in the Sweet Name of Jesus? Only by faith in the Holy Spirit of our Lord and God are we given perfect feeding in this. How then are our hungry souls fed, as were those of the disciples?
The Break of dawn. This means that the night has gone and the morning, the new day has broken and is breaking. Believer, the night of the soul does not last forever. Jesus comes to us at the break of dawn, to bring us His Sweet Presence. He comes to bring us a new dawn with Him.
The Breakfast at dawn. Breakfast breaks the fast of the soul’s night. The soul is in fast, facing dark night, when Jesus is not present. Jesus, and only Jesus, can feed us with satisfying, energising, sustaining food to face the new day. It’s the break of dawn, the first meal of the day for the soul and Jesus supplies us with bread and fish.
Bread – He is the Living Bread, the manna from heaven, which gives us life. This is the bread which came down from heaven – not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever. John 6: 58
Fish – The fish symbolises Jesus’ commission to His disciples, in power, purpose and produce. Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16: 15b. When Jesus fed the disciples, fish for breakfast, at the beach, note carefully, it was all Jesus’ power that provided the joint offering of fish. He provided fish on His own and they brought fish, which He also provided. It was His Food, His Word, which will be miraculously taken, eaten and given to others. His word will be multiplied to feed all the hungry, producing a great harvest for the Kingdom.
The Blessing at dawn – Have you noticed that this was no buffet-style breakfast? They never helped themselves to the provided meal. Jesus served them Himself, not because He was rationing them, as He did not trust their different food capacities, discretion or indiscretion for others. Not one bit of that! Faith allows us to know, see and even feel the Sweet Blessing He bestowed upon those disciples as He took the bread and fish in His own hands and gave it to them. Blessed to serve!
Believer! Whatever is the state of your hungry soul, whether you are fainting with hunger or not, sigh the Sweet Name of Jesus. He is heaven’s manna to your soul.
