With full anticipation and sweet anxiousness, we can hardly wait for all that we are to receive. We believe that our Lord has prepared adequately for each of us and that His Holy Spirit will teach us how to abound in hope, in all that we, by faith, receive.
Today’s old sites are viewed with two very familiar names, which hold us mesmerized in the awe and majesty of God and His mighty, working power in lives that are fully and completely surrendered to Him, in love and service. We listen as God speaks to Moses.
Then the LORD said to Moses, Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. Exodus 17: 14
These are words which God speaks to His servant, Moses after giving His children victory over their enemy. Here is a little background into what has just happened.
The Amalekites, unprovoked and unchallenged by the Israelites, the children of God, have decided to attack them. This attack takes place during the leadership of Moses. Under the guidance of Almighty God, Moses, God’s servant, calls Joshua his assistant and right-hand man, and tells him that they have to fight the attacking enemy. Moses then gives Joshua the precise and exact instructions given to him by God, as they prepare to face this formidable enemy.
There are three arears or three points that must be emphasized and taken to heart as we focus upon this conquering partnership. We identify, the conquering Plan, the conquering Pair and the conquering Procedure. We now pay closer attention to each of them.
The conquering Plan
Moses, the leader, calls Joshua and tells him that the plan is to fight. They are not going to run away; fast and pray; nor seek audience with Amalek, the enemy, to see why he is attacking them, the children of God. They are not even considering holding up a white flag of truce. No! They are going to take up their weapons and fight back. Under Sovereign God’s leadership, He gives His plan for His people. The Plan is to fight.
As servants of Almighty God, followers in His band, we must always be obedient and trusting of Him, because He is the Only Wise. This is what we must always be conscious of, about our Lord and Leader, as He lets us know this imperative fact. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways. Isaiah 55: 8 – 9.
The conquering Pair
Moses calls Joshua, a dedicated, loyal and faithful servant. His unspoiled faith and trust in God have made him stand out among many others. We fondly remember him as one of twelve men sent by Moses to spy out the Promised Land, and he was one of the only two spies who came back and spoke encouragingly to the people. Under God’s direction, Moses has chosen to have a twosome partnership of himself and Joshua. They are to be the two major players in this battle. The Pair is Moses and Joshua.
As servants of Almighty God, followers in His band, we must always be mindful that God is Supreme and Superior, therefore He can win battles using many people, few people and even no people. May we stake ourselves to these words of Jonathan, as he encourages his young, inexperienced armour-bearer, in a mission that is humanly impossible. Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us. For nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or by few. 1 Samuel 14: 6b.
The conquering Procedure
Moses lays it out quite simply and clearly to Joshua. Joshua is to choose some of their fighting men and go out and fight the Amalekites. Moses will stand on top on the hill with the staff of God in his hands. Joshua will take some others with him and Moses will take others with him. The Procedure is that both men, with weapon in hand, will each do his duty. Plan and procedure belong to God.
As servants of Almighty God, followers in His band, it is imperative for us to be always listening to God and obeying Him, every step of the way. Regardless of how we feel that we can interject and proceed as we deem fit, such, we must vehemently resist. Too often, we fall into the trap of accepting our Lord’s plan but we rush off to implement it by our own procedures. How far does our obedience go? May we be like Job and confess this obedience. My foot has held fast to His steps; I have kept His way and not turned aside. I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasures the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. Job 23: 11 – 12.
