The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets. Psalm 50: 1

Three powerfully bright beams of Creator God are given in this verse, as today’s illuminating word. We are being lit up, as it were, as God’s creation. May these beams from Jesus, our all-powerful and all-illuminating Lighthouse, light us up as His vessels, from stern to stem. The three powerful beams which flood you and me with light are, God’s Name, God’s Nature and God’s Nurture. Hold on to them dearly and tightly and notice how extremely real they are for you.

Name - The Mighty One, God, the Lord.

He is addressed in this three-fold way.

The Mighty One – The psalmist acknowledges that there is no other mightier than the Creator. He is the One and Only Mighty, in all the earth.

God – The psalmist calls Him God, for He respects Him as Sovereign. He is Ruler of the entire universe. He is the One and Only God, in all the earth.

The Lord – The psalmist calls Him Lord, for He is not just Sovereign, but He is Saviour. The Lord shepherds and saves His people. He is the One and Only Lord, in all the earth.

Nature – He, speaks and summons the earth.

He is acknowledged as the same God who spoke creation into being.

The Creator Speaks – The psalmist testifies to a God who speaks. The Creator has not gone dumb, after creation. The Lord God still speaks so that all the earth can hear Him. He is speaking to us. Are we hearing?

The Creator Summons – The psalmist is clear about God’s ability to speak and he is even clearer about the Lord’s authority in the earth. It is Creator God who summons His creation. It is His Nature to speak and summon the earth. The Lord God still summons so that all the earth can obey Him. He is summoning us. Are we listening?

Nurture From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.

He is announced as an understanding Father. Creator God, knowing that humans are part of His creation, displays mercy and understanding, incomparable. The psalmist exposes the nurturing of our Lord’s speaking and summoning in these three powerful images.

When – The psalmist tells of God speaking from the rising of the sun to its setting. In other words, the Lord is speaking from morning till night; twenty-four seven. He does not rest, for He wants us all to hear and heed His voice. The time of day, matters not.

Where - The psalmist tells of God speaking from east to west. If the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, then the Lord’s voice will be heard everywhere. He is no respecter of place, for wherever His creation is, He will speak. The place of day, matters not.

Whom – The psalmist tells of God speaking to His creation of all ages. If sunrise represents one’s beginning and early years and sunset represents one’s ending and later years, then He is speaking to all people of all ages. The age of day, matters not.

The reality is that our Mighty God is speaking and He summoning you also. May you be given the wisdom to see His Name, Nature and Nurture in all that He does in you. As He most generously shines Living Beams of the Light of His illuminating word upon you, may you be seen and known by all.

Wherever you are and in whatever season of your live, shine on.
