Angels

As we come today, we are reminded that we are not just concentrating on angels, but we have come with faith and trust, expecting and anticipating to be brightly illuminated in mind and heart, as we are made free to be emptied to be filled and humbled to be lifted.
May the Omnipotent and Ever-working Holy Spirit, bring us closer and closer to our Heavenly Father in this most bright and every glorious season of Advent.
We will agree that in the first coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, to earth from heaven, angels were busy on earth, doing God’s bidding. They were working with human hearts and minds, as they prepared, pronounced, promoted, persuaded, proclaimed, praised and protected. You know the story of the Birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus, however as by faith we have come to be lit up this Advent season, as never before, may the Holy Spirit grant us courage and resolve to do this. Putting aside all that we have become comfortable and complacent in, all that is now dim and dead even, in us, as they are non-functional any more, may we energetically throw every one of them out.
It’s like this. Year after year the same Christmas lights are placed on my cherry tree, and year after year, bulbs on strings of lights, become dim or just do not shine any longer. These lights must either be repaired or made to shine brightly again, or they have to be thrown out to make room for working, shining lights.
The same is true with each of us, for as we are brought to more enlightened sights concerning angels, may we be ever willing and obedient in putting things behind us, to receive the bright, new shining truths offered to us. May we be ever humble and accepting, as we have what is fading in us rekindled and what needs to be discarded, quickly thrown away.
Holy Father, it is You who have called us to this time of special and different illuminations, as You made us Your living Advent trees, for all to see Your Angel Lights and come to know, love and serve You more. We give You thanks. Amen!
In being shown angels in the Advent Story, we will note them as different coloured and different sized lights, bringing immensely brilliant light to all that God has ordained. All that was previously said about the work of the angels, will be taken and illuminated for us and in us. We shall have our minds on angels broadened and brightened as we view angels in other places.
With heightened expectancy and anticipation, we are looking at what is told to us about this angel in Exodus 14: 19a NIV. Then the angel of God, who had been travelling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. Our text at hand is itself a fully lit tree of dazzling, different-coloured lights, most captivating, compelling and conquering in the enlightening power of its words.
Let’s return to the tree that is beautifully lit up. People stand to admire, not its fruit, but its lights, in this special Season of Lights. Listen to the people. Some are pointing to the large oval-shaped lights at the top of the tree. Others are speaking, with curious interest, of the tiny reindeer-shaped lights in the centre. Yet others are enjoying the icicle-type white lights dropping from the bottom. What I am saying is that this verse is no different, as it offers all kinds of beautifully coloured words of wisdom, harmoniously blended thoughts of truth and majestically fitted reels of revelation.
All these and many more blessed illuminations in us will be given as we follow on. As I’m writing this, I am drawn to the is old standard, When Upon Life’s Billows by J. Oatman, Jr. This is the verse that I bring to you, as we close this offering on angels.
