Second Work Of God The Holy Spirit

Having experienced the first of three mighty works of God the Holy Spirit, we have been brought back to the reality of the strength we have in us, in our Lord. We give Him unhinged thanks, for leading and guiding us back to our spiritual senses.

How many of us had fainted and flopped in every way possible. O how many of us were like that father’s boy, dead to his true senses of what he possessed as the child of a forever, loving father.

How can we ever thank You, Holy Spirit, for awakening us and bringing us back to the reality that as God’s children, we too carry His strength within us? To You be all praise and merit. Amen!

Today, we are receiving the Holy Spirit’s, Accosting.

Accosting us to face truth in us that lies buried.

The Lord is the strength of my life.

The common use of the word, accost, is not always pleasant. Our first mind, when we hear the word accost, is to think of approaching people and speaking to them, quite often in an aggressive and challenging way. Descriptions such as, rude, unmannerly and even hostile, cross our minds. These are all quite true. Nevertheless, there is another meaning which is not as gravely rude and distasteful.

I’m using accost in the sense of someone suddenly barging into your space, to ask a question. Or it may be someone stopping you in your hurry, to speak to you. Let me confess that this is what David’s declaration did to me. Do you share this experience with me?

It’s like this. I’m going along at my rate and speed, with my tentativeness about the fast, flowing year. I’m having some unnerving pity parties about the condition of my spiritual health, my faith and trust in particular. I’m going about with this being unnoticed by the average commuter on life’s pilgrimage journey, when, without warning, I’m accosted in my tracks by David’s words. Hasn’t it done the same for you?

You hear the words, the Lord is the strength of my life, and you have no choice but to stop. Suddenly, you are facing truth that you really don’t want exposed. You are seeing in yourself, what is not at all pleasant, flattering, or comforting. You have been pretty successful for a time, in keeping these under wraps. Accosting, like a two-edged sword, come these words of David, the Lord is the strength of life, and you die.

You die in truth, because you have been sorely convicted and simply cannot carry on in pretence any longer.

You die in repentance, as you face the truth of your present life and cannot go a step further, burying truth about yourself.

It’s like Saul, when he was accosted by Jesus on the road to Damascus. He was most ungraciously knocked off his mount, so that from his, on the ground position, he had to stop and hear Jesus’ question to him. Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? Acts 9: 4b. Saul was so slain by Jesus’ words, he had to die to all that he was holding and turn to the God who knew him, long before he was born.

Whatever road you are walking in this season of your pilgrim path, you cannot make such a declaration about your God, and be satisfied to live a lie. This I know most certainly. In your quickened senses, you can no longer keep truth buried way down within you.  No! Truth must be released!

Accosted by this strength which abides within you and which has now been revived, get up and live your strength. Live your strength, defying all that will come to entice you to conceal and bury it.

You belong to God and He is the Strength of your life.
