Ceiling Of Ceilings

Like so many believers and people who find the psalms a treasure cove of bountiful riches, abundant blessings, and solace beyond compare, we continue to be rich in our singing of praises to our Lord God and boldly, loudly and proudly declare His deeds for all to hear and know.

We come to this, through this bold conviction of David. The Lord is the strength of my life.  These are words from Psalm 27: 1, which we readily utter in any season of our lives. They are words which roll out and ooze out of our mouths with such automaticity, we seem at times not even conscious of what we are professing and confessing about our Lord. Indeed, these are very familiar words from a household psalm and well-known by children even.

In my day, Psalm 27 was one of the psalms, as children, we had to memorise, as we did Psalm 23. The point I am making is that I do not only know Psalm 27, but I have known it from childhood. Most of you, if indeed not all of you, have personally spoken these words, in many different settings. I have spoken this sentence unendingly, The Lord is the strength of my life. I have said it in response to questions about my life. I have had occasions when I used it to help others. O, the times when I have whispered them to myself, to encourage myself in some depressingly low times. You too share such times as these and many other times as well, when you spoke these words, The Lord is the strength of my life.

As already indicated, for the remainder of this week, we shall be receiving, praising and declaring mighty works of God, with confidence and truth. We shall be giving unending praise to our Lord God, not with our lips only, but in thankful, renewed and revitalized lives.  

My hope is that it will do for us, immeasurably more than we can ever imagine or even desire. Regardless of our present position of mind and spirit, we know that the deeds of God are beyond finding out. We also believe that by faith, we will receive His mighty, marvellous, miraculous works in us, so that any lame faith, any injured trust, any bruised hope and any smouldering belief, God will heal, and bring us to declare that the Lord is the strength of our lives. We will be declaring what is the testimony of our revived lives. 

We longingly look forward to three mighty works of God the Holy Spirit, to find full place in us. These are the works of: -

• Awakening us to truth that lies dormant within us.

• Accosting us to face truth that lies buried within us.

• Agitating us to change, that truth may blossom and grow fruit in us, tenfold, fiftyfold and a hundredfold. 

As already established, Psalm 27, on the whole, is a beloved psalm of David. However, The Lord is the strength of my life, this powerful, exuberant and loud profession of David, is nicely fixed and fitted into Psalm 27: 1, as if these words have a ceiling and a base.

Have a long, hard gaze at what I refer to as the ceiling. The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? That is where David is coming from, when he looks up to the LORD. There is sanctifying light and saving light. It is light beyond all lights, eternal, everlasting light that goes beyond the imagination even. It is light which spans all the earth, all heaven and hell. It is God, for He is Light, who gives light. He is Salvation, who gives salvation.

When therefore, David speaks of God as being his light, his ceiling as it were, his words go beyond human, carnal understanding. God is Spirit and His works are always works of the Spirit.

Will you keep looking up? I say that this is as a topless ceiling, because the more you look up, the more you are made to see the limitlessness and everlastingness of the Lord’s Light and Salvation.
