Baseline Of Baselines

Most assuredly, as there is a ceiling which is topless, there is indeed a baseline, or a base, which is bottomless. Of whom shall I be afraid? 

It is precisely because God is not just his light, but his salvation, David is able to speak with such forthrightness of faith and trust in God. Who is there, alive or dead, who is there that was ever born, or will ever be born, to make David afraid of them? The Lord, is his light and this is the light to which he refers. This is the light which he knows and testifies to. The sun shall no longer be your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; But the LORD will be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory. Your sun shall no longer go down, nor shall your moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended. Isaiah 60: 19 – 20. Can any other light, good or bad, bring him fear?

David personally knew about the deadly, jealous light of the world.

Because of bountiful favour, which God showered upon David, and made him a mightier warrior than Saul, jealousy took full hold of Saul. The same David whom he was so keen upon, the person whom he wanted to live in his palace with him, is the same David he now resents and hates. He even tries to kill him. And Saul cast the spear, for he said, I will pin David to the wall. But David escaped his presence twice. 1 Samuel 18: 11. The Lord was David’s strength and salvation.  

David personally knew about the wicked, tormenting light of the world.

David, for a very long time, had to live like a fugitive, hiding from the king and his men, who were relentless in pursuing him to kill him on the spot. Do you remember the time when David and his faithful band of men are in the Wilderness of Maon? Saul is told of this and he and his army quickly ride out to where David is and surround him and his men. There is no way humanly possible for David not to be caught. As Saul is about to gain the victory he has been waiting for, we are told that he receives word that the Philistines have invaded the land and Saul turns from pursuing David. So they called that place the Rock of Escape. 1 Samuel 23: 28b. The Lord was David’s sure salvation.

David personally knew about the flesh and blood, deceitful, treacherous light of the world.

David lived the horrible nightmare of a son turned against his own father. His son Absalom, with deadly treachery, conspired against him and when David was told, he had to leave the palace and Jerusalem immediately. So David went up by the Ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered and went barefoot. 2 Samuel 15: 30a. The Lord never leaves David’s mind and heart. Note, in spite of all that he is dealing with, through the sadness, grief and tears, when David is told that his trusted advisor, the man who was his counsel and advisor, had crossed over and gone to his wicked son, David pulled out his sure weapon of prayer. Then someone told David saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness! 2 Samuel 15: 31.Yes! God answered his prayer.

I found these samples of trials in David’s life, necessary and informative, showing how David was never ever left off, or abandoned at any time by his God. In all these, he knew the Lord as his Saviour. Has not God declared to all His people, including you and me, that He is their Saviour? Has He not declared this? I, even I, am the LORD, and besides Me there is no savior. Isaiah 43: 11. Yes indeed! David does make a jubilant declaration about his God.
