Power

Having by faith, heard and heeded the word of Zachariah to God’s people, we have also heard it too ourselves.

We forever give God thanks that we are able to repent of our sins and know God’s forgiveness. However, this is only possible through the powerful, ever efficient Name of Jesus. There is power in the Name of Jesus, as Peter boldly presented the Name of Jesus to the most highly respected religious Body, the Sanhedrin.

There, among that council of highly revered leaders and teachers of the people, were minds that did not hold the Name of Jesus as powerful.  Here are the Spirit-given words of Peter to those high, Jewish leaders. Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4: 10 – 12. Whether we be leader, preacher, member or follower, we need to hear again that there is power in the Name of Jesus.

The word, power, carries a flotilla of different and varied kinds of understanding, for many and varied people. We speak of power in terms of money, silver and gold. It is not uncommon for us to hear it said that money talks, or money speaks, giving deference to the power money commands in this world.

Look at a rifle or gun. There’s power in that weapon, regardless of how small it is, to take down a person or an animal. However, you can carry all that explosive power in your hand and not know its present benefits to you or others, for that matter. Why is this so? How can this be? It’s as simple as one being ignorant about the use of that power weapon. You can hold a rifle in your hand, aim it directly at the fast approaching enemy and still be defeated, because you did not know about the trigger. The power of the gun lies in your ability to use the trigger, without which all its power will be futile to you.  Does this say anything to you, or about you, regarding the power there is in the Name of Jesus, the One who is your Lord and Master? Do you call the Name of Jesus in your present overwhelming difficulty, some immediate danger, or some battering-ram experience, and there is no help?

O yes, just as the rifle is loaded so too the Name of Jesus is thrice loaded. And just as you need to pull the trigger, to receive the perfect power of the rife, the same with Jesus’ Name. Faith is as the trigger and unless you pull on your faith, as it were, you will remain without know the present power there is in the Name of Jesus.

On a completely different footing, we see the power in the hand of ordinary men and women who are wearing a military uniform. This is what I mean. Stand on a street where cars, huge trucks and lorries are travelling and note, for whatever reason, a uniformed person stands, and with the raise of one hand, can bring the traffic to a halt. Now take that same person, outside of that uniform, doing the same action and no one will listen and obey. No traffic will come to a halt. There is no power, as it were, in that hand without the uniform. My question in this scenario is this. In what does the power lie? Does it lie in the person, or in the uniform being worn?

Believe you me, those who by faith, wear the Name of Jesus, the abiding Jesus, know power beyond human limit.

Having cited a few examples, of the many real, life scenarios, which you already know, for the remainder of this week, we shall focus specifically, on the power there is in the Name of Jesus. Many hymns, verses and suchlike testify to the power there is in the Name of Jesus. Although we are being very deliberate on focusing on the Name of Jesus. I hasten to state however, I’m well aware that there is no divide whatever, in these power-parts in Jesus. There is power in His Blood, His Words, His Hand, His very Body and more.

As we continue tomorrow, we shall touch on them.
