Our King

It is commonplace for us to laud and magnify Jesus as King. We sing worship songs such as this most popular contemporary hymn. One of its verses says this.

Majesty, worship His Majesty,
Jesus who died, now glorified,
King of all kings.

There is a much less contemporary, but a stalwart of a hymn with a stanza along with its chorus, which honours, lauds and hails King Jesus in this way.

Sing we the King who is coming to reign,
Glory to Jesus the Lamb that was slain,
Life and salvation His empire shall bring,
Joy to the nations when Jesus is King.

Chorus:

Come let us sing: Praise to our King,
Jesus our King, Jesus our King:
This is our song who to Jesus belong:
Glory to Jesus, to Jesus our King.

You and I know that there are hundreds more hymns, articles, books, and more that uplift, honour and hail Jesus as King.

On this Lord’s Day Sunday, we join the psalmist David as we bow before our Sovereign to offer Him what is due to Him. Before the assembly of believers, we join in, as David exalts, upholds and honours God.

Blessed are You, LORD God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. 1 Chronicles 29: 10b – 12.

Nothing and no one should keep us hostage and stop us from giving all praise and glory to Sovereign God. If we are not free to lift our voices lustily and melodically in grateful song to our Father and God, then let us do so in our hearts. Our Father and King will hear us just as well, for He knows every beating heart. He hears every sigh, groan and unspoken utterance of the heart that truly loves, honours and worships Him.

God is no respecter of hearts, so that uttered or unexpressed, He searches hearts and accepts our praises.

During this week, we shall dwell on a most common, every day, theme, yet one which can bring confusion at times. It comes from this question, Who is our King?
