On this second Lord’s Day Sunday in the year two thousand and twenty-six, our specific focus is on our Heavenly Father, God and Lord, who is Spirit. He is the Invisible God who delights in having Himself seen and known, as He determines and dictates.
He made Himself visible to human eyes, when He came incarnate in a Baby, born of woman and not man. Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us. Matthew 1: 23. Immanuel, God is with us, not in hidden Body, but He came in flesh and bones as we are.
He made Himself accessible to human beings through His Son Jesus, Saviour of the world. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His Name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins. Matthew 1: 21. Our immortal, invisible God, contracted Himself to a span, incomprehensibly made Man, to die on a cruel cross of sin, where He was seen by all who passed by, to save sinners. God is still seen by us, in Jesus, our Saviour and Redeemer.
He made Himself knowable by His own in Jesus, the Nazarene. When Philip, one of the disciples of Jesus, asked Him to show them God, the Father, this was Jesus’ reply. Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, Show us the Father. John 14: 9b. God is still seen by us, in Jesus, the Word made flesh, who dwells among us and in us.
The apostle Paul, dutifully reminds us that God, who is invisible, with His invisible attributes, has been and continues to be clearly and visibly seen in His Living Word, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Romans 1: 17. Not only that, but the apostle reminds us, who claim faith and profess to know Jesus, that we stand excuseless, when it comes to seeing, knowing, following and obeying our unseen heavenly Father God. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. Romans 1: 20.
Who are the, they? They, refers to all of us who claim to live by faith in our Lord, Saviour and Master, Jesus Christ. It is in this knowledge, this exposed truth that we shall spend this week being led from faith to faith, as God’s incalculable and undeniable Word is offered to us.
