Exposed Field

We have come today, full of faith, assurance and immeasurable fullness of our heavenly Father’s riches in Christ Jesus. We have also come, most aware and clear in heart and mind, that our Father’s riches to us can come in vastly different ways. We accept that some come beautifully wrapped up for us, while others come in ways which we have no choice but to seek God’s help to accept, with humble and contented heart. It is with this faith-activated assurance that we are prepared to receive, without measure, beautifully different riches from our Father in heaven.

In yesterday’s offering, we looked upon the lucrative words of a hymn by Annie Johnson, as a field of immeasurable spiritual treasure. Today, we are taken to another field that is laden with a harvest of the healthiest looking fruit, spiritual riches beyond thought. Everywhere you turn your eyes, trees are laden with rich fruit, and they all seem to be inviting you to pick, take and eat. You just don’t know where to begin. You are full of happiness and excitement, yet, with a kind of mystically enchanting and glorious disbelief, wondering, if it is for real.  Am I in some euphoric dream? It is almost too good to be true!

You are in a field where rich fruit or food, is not just plentiful, but you are given unlimited access to it. Even more wonderful is the fact that it is all free to you. There are no stipulations, no restrictions, and no barriers. You can eat as much as you are able to, and take away as much as you are able to carry. You just can’t stop smiling, as you must make a decision to start picking, eating and packing. Haven’t you had such experiences in different ways? This was my exact feeling about the field of rich treasures to which I now introduce you. It’s all up to you to take, eat and carry as your faith allows.

And he said, A hundred measures of oil. So he said unto him, Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty. Then said he to another, And how much do you owe? So he said, A hundred measures of wheat. And he said to him, Take your bill, and write eighty. Luke 16: 6 – 7

That is the field, different, unexpected, but none the less our rich field.  These two highly highlighted verses of Scripture, from Jesus’ parable on the Unjust Steward, make up the rich ground to which we have been led. This is the field, laden with immeasurable spiritual treasure, before us, behind us, at the right of us and at the left of us. No matter where we may turn, there is open treasure for the taking. As I am writing, I suddenly hear these words, which make me smile even wider. This is no Achan-type taking. Do you remember Achan?

Listen to what has happened to poor Achan. He is one of Joshua’s many victorious fighting men, his army. God has just given them a mighty victory over a nation of great wealth. Before Achan, and all others too, are riches beyond told. Riches are before him, behind him, to his left and to his right. He is literally mesmerized by all the rich, beautiful spoils that lie spread out before him. All this wealth, every single thing I tell you, is exposed, visible and within easy reach. Achan simply could not walk away from it all. Just listen to his words. When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And they are hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it. Joshua 7: 21.

Achan was in a place, a field of immeasurable wealth, riches galore, and he took as he desired. Unfortunately, God had already commanded that he was not free to take anything for himself or anyone else for that matter. He and all others, paid most dearly for such utter, brazen disobedience. We know that his taking was not legitimate, as he had to hide away, to bury away all that he had so freely taken. Most assuredly, our taking from this field of unlimited riches and treasures, is no Achan-type taking. We are instructed by our Lord to: -

  • Pick, whatever we want without fear or dread.

  • Eat, whatever we desire, to our hearts' content.

  • Take away as much as we are able to carry, without guilt or shame.

  • Share generously with all who desire, without reservation.

All this is available to you free, no charge whatsoever and most of all, it delights the Lord to have you take generously, freely and joyfully from Him.

Lord, Master, Jesus, I praise You for who You are. I praise and thank You for considering me in this most special and almost unbelievable time with You. I ask that You give me the humble boldness and hungry brashness to take You at Your Word. Propel me to pick, eat, take and share all that has been freely given to me, without reserve, false pride or fake piety. Thank You Jesus! I bless and praise You for Your inexplicable, unfathomable and most ineffable grace and mercy to us, sinners. Jesus, without guilt or shame, I take without count. Amen!
