Gain Wisdom

  • 3 min read

Wisdom is the principal thing: Therefore get wisdom, and in all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4: 7

God, the One Wise, has been openly generous in placing His wisdom within our reach, should we not reach and take what is being offered to us? Whatever this question has done for you, I pray that you will not turn away from all the promptings of the Holy Spirit, whose distinct work at this time is for you, me and all who name the Name of Jesus, to gain His offered wisdom.

So here is the question again. Is not Jesus in your reach? Is not God, the Son in your reach? Of course He is! Nothing any sceptic, disbeliever, doubter or liar purports, can prove, by any stretch of the imagination, anything to the contrary. May these few unarguable facts, marshal us all to remember, and seek with all our might, to hold fast to the knowledge that as Jesus is in our reach, so too is His unsearchable wisdom. Let none fool you. To have Jesus is to have His wisdom.

Jesus is in our reach, for He left above, a place beyond our reach, to come to earth below, a place within our reach. If we believe this, then His wisdom is within our comfortable reach.

Jesus is in our reach, since He came to us, closer than any brother, to be family with us, sharing one Heavenly Father. If we accept this, then His wisdom is within our easy reach.

Jesus is in our reach, as He defied the accepted traditions, rules and human understanding of law, to have fellowship with us, sinners. How else could He have been degradingly crowned with the names of sinner, glutton and winebibber? If we receive this, then His wisdom is within our immediate reach.

Jesus is in our reach, because He not only looked like us with flesh and bones, but He became as we are in temptations and trials, though He never yielded. He looks like us in the wickedness of people to seduce, exploit, accuse Him and make Him deny and forfeit the grace of the Living Holy Spirit in Him. If we know this to be true, then His wisdom is within our present reach.

Jesus is in our reach, when He made it His urgent business to tell and explain to His disciples, and to us also, that although He was going away, we would not be left as orphans. He categorically stated that He would send us another Comforter - the Spirit of truth - who would abide with us forever. If we trust this to be gospel, then His wisdom is within our now reach.

Jesus, whom we profess to be abiding in us, is He, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2: 3. He is the Jesus who came so near to us that He became one with us, taking all our sin, guilt and shame and paying the ultimate price for us, that we may fully know Him and His wisdom, in our mortal bodies. Is this not wisdom worth gaining?

I end this offering by bringing to your remembrance these words of wisdom, from James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. James, who found the wisdom of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, worth gaining and sharing. Listen, receive and gain.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.  For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing will be there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. James 3: 13 – 17.
