Abiding Faith

If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15: 7

If a covenant is a declaration, a commitment by two consenting parties, then here is a covenant between Jesus and you. Indeed, both you and Jesus have consented in the same commitment as you and Father God for, says Jesus, I and My Father are one. John 10: 30. When God made His abiding covenant with Abraham our father of faith, He included you and me. Are we not the descendants of Abraham? Cast your minds back on what God did and see you vividly present as part of this transaction. After promising to make fruitless Abraham exceedingly fruitful, so that nations and kings shall come from him, God went on to say this to him. And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.  Genesis 17: 7.

You can plainly see that God is precise and deliberate in making sure that His covenant is not just for father Abraham, but for Abraham’s descendants.

Holy Spirit, please graciously and mercifully grant each of us reading this, spiritual hearing that will raise us up from our mounds of doubts and despairing about ourselves and our families. With every heard word, every revealed and repeated truth and every received promise, may our endangered souls look above ourselves and our present situations and keep ever looking above to You.  You, O Holy, Covenant Making and Keeping God of Abraham, are our God also. Thank You Lord God, our Father in heaven. Amen!

With refreshed and revived faith through prayer we listen again to God, our Father in heaven, who made covenant with Abraham.

  • I will establish My covenant between Me and you and I have included your descendants also, in their generations.

  • I will establish My covenant between Me and you, for an everlasting covenant, and I have made it the same covenant, everlasting for your descendants as well.

  • I will establish My covenant between Me and you, to be God to you, and I will also be God to your descendants after you.

Previously, a question was asked, whether or not we were the descendants of Abraham. The answer is distinctly and clearly given in Galatians 3: 7. Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. The chapter goes on further to stipulate, So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham. Galatians 3: 9. Hold this truth before you with un-blinded eyes, un-stopped ears, un-bridled tongue and un-deceived mind.

You are a son or daughter of Abraham, by faith and faith alone, in God. Nothing of your works or will hold place.

You are a son or daughter of Abraham, and will be blessed just as he was, if you live by faith in God, just as he did.

We need to pause for a moment to deal with an understanding of faith that we must forever desist and stay clear of. Faith here is what I simply call virgin faith, meaning that it is faith that has not been tampered with. It is faith forever fresh and untouched by the hands of works. Faith in God does not need any assistance of human works. If indeed we are sons and daughters of Abraham in covenant with God through being his descendants, then we are all saved by grace and grace alone. Listen to this powerful truth of God and His grace to us.

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourself; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2: 4 – 9.
