Visitors Worship
Having been made to ponder even deeper into the wisdom of Almighty, Sovereign God, in those whom He chose to be the first visitors to see the Christ Child, we have come to accept and are coming to accept, by faith, that He can still do the same to us and in us, who bring forth His Living Word, to the world.
We truly seek help to surrender all our sensible, practical, human thinking and talk, to accept, by faith, all that He is working through us and working out in us. We also want to keep this treasure in our hearts and minds, the fact that God has not just given to us His Living Word, but He gives us the strength to bring forth that Word, to have it born, made flesh, through us, as He wills. We also believe and treasure the fact that strangers, not family or close friends, may be the first ones, in obedience, to receive and accept what we have to offer.
Having looked at shepherds, strangers to Mary and Joseph, we now ponder upon what is now being offered to us.
Showing
The third fact of interest that we raise, comes through the showing or experiences of those unsuspecting shepherds. By faith, we believe that God came in Jesus and was given human birth through Virgin Mary. By faith, we also believe all that happened to the shepherds, as they were in the fields that night. Let’s pause for a moment to bring to the forefront what the shepherds experienced, which propelled them to leave all and go to Bethlehem. This all comes from Luke 2: 9 – 15.
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. They experienced divine visitation, and divine glory. Their immediate, human response was one of unprecedented fear. They all became very afraid. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. From human fear, they were brought to divine peace. They all experienced the power of God, through His heavenly messenger, to cast out all terror and fear and bring them to the mind and heart ready to receive and accept the Good News, which was being offered to them.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. They experienced a news-telling, as they had never heard before. It was not past news, nor future news. It was today’s news, present news, hot off the press, as it were. Surely, as they heard the news of Messiah’s birth, nearby, they would have experienced a change of heart and mind. Indeed, we cannot but believe that these transformed hearts, from fear to peace, are experiencing great joy.
Their joy must be even more heightened, when they were given a specific sign, by which to recognize Baby Messiah. Before they could rise to their feet, to go and see Messiah, they were suddenly engulfed in a worship session out of this world. Suddenly, a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. What a privilege! What favour! What a God-given experience, to be included in such divine, heavenly worship and praise to Almighty, Sovereign God! Does this not bring you to inexpressible heart-joy, to be given such divine favour? Is this not praise and worship beyond all human effort and design? O yes! With hearts full of heavenly bliss, these shepherds now have much to share, much to tell and much to see. Propelled by the Living Word in them, as soon as the angels left them and returned to heaven, without wasting a moment, they went to witness, to see, all that they had been told.
A Powerful Word to Treasure! The Word of God, which has been brought forth through you, will bring others to find you. Never become puffed up and conceited. Think about it, the shepherds only came because of what they were told. They never came because of Mary, the one through whom the Living Word was given birth. Absolutely not! They came to where Mary, Joseph and the Baby were, only because of God’s Divine works in them and to them.
Treasure and ponder this Word in your heart.
Isn’t our God Wonderful and absolutely marvellous?
