Unsearchable Riches

Yesterday’s heading for our meditation, read like this. ‘Responding to Jesus’. It was emphasized that the abundant life Jesus died to secure for us sinners, was not abundance, fullness or riches, which we had to search for in some treasure hunt type game. It was firmly stated that Jesus has already died and His life’s riches, His abundance, are available to all who will believe and receive.
Believe this or not, here’s an experience of the unsearchable riches of Jesus. Not thinking about hymns or any such things, and without knowing what I was about in my private school-time with our Lord, a very dear friend sent me this text.
Oh, the unsearchable riches of Christ!
Who shall their greatness declare?
Jewels whose lustre our lives may adorn,
Pearls that the poorest may wear!
Precious, more precious,
Wealth that can never be told!
Oh, the unsearchable riches of Christ!
Precious, more precious than gold.
There was nothing introducing these most beautiful words and nothing explaining them either. They just came, just as I have brought them to you. I responded with these words. Is this a hymn? I never said thank you for such bounty, or thanks for such a treasure of words, or any such words of gratitude. True, I read the words, and instantly held them to me. However, what I wanted to know, the question I asked, was absolutely irrelevant to what I was receiving. Whether it was a hymn, a poem, a song or what have you, was irrelevant really to the unsearchable riches offered me just in that single verse and chorus.
That I asked the question whether or not it was a hymn, shows that I was totally ignorant about those words. My friend told me it was a hymn, written by Fanny Crosby. For all like me, who have never seen or heard this hymn before, I recommend you seek it and receive all it has to offer. It is entitled, ‘Oh the Unsearchable Riches of Christ’.
However, what I draw your attention to, is my response to what was before me. I mean, what was in my presence, in my conscious presence, were riches galore, to uplift, to change, to feed, to teach and drape me in robes of brightness and newness. Foolishly, all I wanted to know was, its taxonomy, into which specific artistic group or category the words fell. Honestly, what does it matter to my spiritual well-being, whether the words I read were prose, poetry, song, rhyme or whatever else have you? What did the carnal have to do with the Spiritual? What did the human have to do with the superhuman? What did the earthly wisdom have to do with heavenly offering?
To some, it may appear that I am going a bit overboard with this, but I can assure you that you will be totally turned around in head and heart, when we look at the responses of a gentleman, who was offered our Lord’s unsearchable riches. It is the well-known and frequently used encounter with Jesus and a needy man, at the pool in Bethesda.
For the remainder of the week we shall be looking at responses to Jesus, the One and Only One in whom is to be found unsearchable riches. He is Jesus, Friend of the weak, the lame, the sick, the sad, the aged, the young, the rich and the poor. He is Jesus, Giver of abundant life, life in all its fullness.
Receive Proverbs 10: 22. The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it. NKJV
O yes! Surprises await you in this week’s journey with our Jesus, Lord of all riches.
