Trackers Of Jesus

What was the response of wisdom, the response of the wise men who received an epiphany when they saw the star?

These wise men, also known to us as Magi, began tracking Jesus, King of the Jews. The whole idea of tracking, the understanding and picture of people who are tracking, is that they are tracking some specific target. No one goes tracking, nothing. When people are tracking animals, for example, they follow trails, clues, tips, and such like. These wise men are tracking a person. Why? This is so because of God and God alone.

As has been highly underscored, the shepherds’ response was because of what they heard and saw, their epiphany. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. Luke 2: 9. There was undoubtedly, God’s Light, which came to enlighten them, and which gave them wisdom. Light came in the brilliance of an angel through God’s glory, which encompassed them. However, with the Magi, God’s Light did not come with such open audibility and mystery. You see, unlike an angel, a star is a common sight for these wise men of the East. This is even more precious and breath-taking for us, because here it is, when it comes to Gentile recipients of His Epiphany, God chose to use an object of His creation, which was ordinary, natural and homely to those astronomers.

In a very real way, does this not remind you of Simeon? He is a devout and holy man for whom going to the temple is a common, regular practice. It was no big, scary thing to have him sore afraid, to go to the temple. Yet, it was in the ordinary, in the used to practice of his daily life that God chose to give Simeon his own, once-in-a-lifetime, divine experience. He held the Baby Jesus in his arms. The wise men too, had this once-in-a-lifetime experience, when they were given, not just wisdom to see and take note of a different star in the sky, but understanding to know what it was all about. Listen to their words as the Magi have left the East and have come to the West, as it were, a very long distance away, tracking the King of the Jews. As they diligently search in Jerusalem for more information, their question is unchanged. This is the one question they ask. Where is he that has been born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Matthew 2: 2.

Take note! After they have received the manifestation of the star, born in the East, they left to track down, not the star but the King, Jesus. Here is a word that has been revealed to me, which truly set me at a halt. Let me share this explosive wisdom and understanding with all, like me, who need it. May it be to us, as the star was to the wise men! The wise men, who had been given eyes to behold that different star, did not treat it as they did other stars. In other words, they would not remain star gazers or star watchers, looking through their instruments and tracking the path of the star. No! The star was different and their response was different. They did not track this star, they followed it, as they tracked the Good News, which the star brought to them.

Here is a word of exposing and enlightening. Wisdom teaches us that we are never to track our stars, but follow them, as they lead us to the Good News born to us. To track the star is to track the guide and this is not who and what God is all about. The guide is to be with you all the time, taking and leading you faithfully, safely and triumphantly to your destination. The guide, the star, is of God and is obedient to God who controls it at all times. Even when the star is not seen by human eyes, it is there, with you, seeing you and ensuring that you do not go off course. God’s star always brings you safely and victoriously to the exact place where you can worship King Jesus with your gifts. 

So what are some of the stars which God has brought before us in this New Year? From where is our epiphany coming in this blessed first, whole week in 2025? We are introduced to three stars.
