As we have come to forefront knowledge and sight, and by that I mean, it is before our faces, may the Church, you, me and every believer, be assured that nothing short of God’s full armour is what we are wearing right now. We are not wrestling with human beings, but injurious spirits and evil forces, operating through humans.

May the True and Right Holy Spirit in the Church, keep her standing against the very gates of hell.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth.  Truth must gird the Church. If her loins are her waist, hip, lower middle area, then truth must be her girdle or belt, holding her together. She must be sincere, in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left. 2 Corinthians 6: 7.

Stand therefore, having on the breastplate of righteousness. Righteousness faithfully guards the heart of the Church, the very life of the Church. As God’s elect, as the Church, and, since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 1 Thessalonians 5: 8

Stand therefore, having your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Peace is what the feet of the Church must know, must have and must spread. How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10: 15b

Stand therefore, having above all, the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Faith, like the shield, is what you work hard, what you are constantly employing, as the fiery arrows of the enemy are relentlessly being aimed at the heart or core of the Church. Faith in God and all He promises, is what shields and protects the Church from those flaming arrows of the evil one. Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. Proverbs 30: 5

Stand therefore, having on the helmet of salvation. The helmet covers the head, which we know. However, since Jesus is our Head and He is our only guaranteed salvation, we, the Church must wear Jesus. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Romans 13: 14

Stand therefore, having the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  Listen! No sword is in the hand of the warrior just to defend himself or herself. Absolutely not! The sword is there serving two complementary purposes. It is used for defence and attack. The Word of God is the power given to the Church to be on the offensive and on the defensive. There are times when the Church needs to be on the offensive, skilfully wielding the Spirit’s Sword, attacking and defeating enemies, left, right and centre. She also needs to know how to be astute in using the Sword to defend herself.  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4: 12.

Stand therefore, having continuous prayer. The Church is called to be ceaselessly praying, always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. She, clad in the full armour of God, must always be watching constantly in prayer, with all perseverance and supplication for herself and all believers. Keep in prayer! The Church is not warring with the flesh.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ: And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10: 3 – 6
