Seeing And Sharing
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has told us about. Luke 2: 15.
Sharers
The fourth fact of interest that we raise, brings us to a time of sharing. Follow closely and walk the path with those excited shepherds as they hurry to Bethlehem.
These first visitors to Baby Messiah, have come with hearts and minds full of all that Good News which the Lord has told to them. They have come with an experience, which neither mother Mary, nor father Joseph have experienced.
Think about it! Ponder upon it! You will agree that the shepherds’ experience of the heavenly beings is different from what Mary and Joseph will have experienced. I ask you, do you really believe that these excited visitors, filled with such Good News, will simply come to see the Baby, worship Him and not speak to His parents of all that they have been told? Of Course not! How could they be contained!
These visitors came with voices that tell all the things which were revealed to them, by God’s messenger. Remember their excitement and joy, as they hurried off to find the Saviour, who had been born to them? Their voices only spoke about the New Born Saviour, as they were told by God, through His angel. Surely, they would be truthful and tell Mary and Joseph how terrified they were at first, but how God’s calming peace was showered upon them. Certainly, they would have shared how they knew peace, which allowed them to receive all that was being told to them, and the way it was being brought to them. Those shepherds would have also recounted their experience when, without warning, out of the blue, there suddenly appeared, a great company of the heavenly host, who were singing praises to God.
Don’t you think that even Mary, was hearing things she had never heard before? Don’t you think that she listened with keen ear and humbled heart, as those first human voices spoke to her about her Baby Boy? Mary treasured those voices, and her heart and mind were made full as she saw their faithfulness, belief and unmovable excitement in speaking only what they had experienced. There were no additions or omissions, as they spoke what they were told.
We cannot let it bypass us that the voices of these visitors, these shepherds, are given fuller scope. I have found this to be most interesting, but also seriously challenging. We take note of the fact that these shepherds have not just gone to Bethlehem to, see this thing that has happened which the Lord has told us about, and also share their experiences with Mary and Joseph, but there is more. Their hearts and minds have been so taken, so filled with all that they have been told, they are constrained to tell others. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child. Luke 2: 17. Something very pointing is revealing itself to us.
There is much to glean and gather here and we truly need the Holy Spirit to make it live in us. What are you gleaning here? Is there something, or are there things that are coming to your mind, which are causing you to ponder with holy fear?
Let me share this one thing with you. The Messiah has been born, and this Good News is first spread on earth, among shepherds. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. No human voice told them about the Birth of Messiah. No human person had come to them to inform them of a Birth in Bethlehem. God used His heavenly messenger, to leave heaven, and come down to earth, to tell the Good News to those shepherds who were nearby. But the Good News is not something to be kept under lock and key, as it were. It was not News to keep quiet about. The spread or sharing of this Good News, is now done by human voices. Is this not something to ponder and bow humbly before our Wise and unfathomable God?
A Powerful Word to Treasure! The Word of God, which has been brought forth through you, will be told to some other as the Lord wishes and not as you desire. He is still Lord and Master of His Living Word. Never ever underestimate the power of God to use His heavenly and His earthly servants as He desires. However God works, is well done, and is to be -
Treasured and pondered up in each heart.
We look forward to a sterling conclusion.
