Second Sunday In Advent

On this Second Lord’s Day Sunday in Advent, I invite you to receive again three comforts which were graciously showered upon us, in a past meditation, as we prepared to welcome in this Advent Season. Although we are already in the Season, we want ever to remain in the Spirit of the Lord, rely totally on Him and regard every Word of Blessing He bestows upon us, in this time of celebration.

May this continue to be a special Advent for each of us, to treasure up and ponder God’s marvels and wonders to us, in unprecedented and glorious ways. May we be bold in our living, uncompromisingly so, as fully submitted to our Lord and Saviour, by faith, we look forward to our Lord’s Good in Advent.

Here are the three distinct comforts which have already been prepared for us, for the beginning of this Second Week in Advent.

First Comfort. Remember! We have stepped out in firm and sure confidence that we will receive and are receiving the Holy Spirit’s Power.  Continue to give thanks to our Heavenly Father for this Divine comfort, in knowing that we do not have to rely on our own power and strength for anything. We have in us the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Second Comfort. Consider! We are standing on the solid and steady assurance that we all have received the Holy Spirit’s Presence. Understand this! As Jesus’ witnesses, each one of us must carry and show our Master in us, while we are in this mortal, human body. Understand this also! This is only possible when you and I no longer live to ourselves, but only unto Jesus. Is this not Divine comfort, to have the perfect assurance that we human beings can die to self and can know that Jesus is living in us, through the Presence of the Holy Spirit?

Third Comfort. Understand! We, by faith and faith alone, stand grounded and routed in the surety that we have been perfectly fixed and fitted to be our Master’s witnesses, wherever in the world we may be. Is this not totally grounding and stabilizing? This brings to each of us the boldness of our Lord’s comfort, because of His indwelling Holy Spirit. Therefore, it matters not where we are sent, or even where those who hate us may take us. It does not change our hearts and minds, even when evils – principalities and powers – take us to places of darkness and gloom. Wherever we are and in whatsoever state, we know that we are the Lord’s and He will keep us and watch over us, as His faithful witnesses. What Divine comfort to know that whatsoever our state, there is no power or presence able to subdue the Person of the Holy Spirit. What absolutely Divine Comfort, to know the indwelling Person of the Holy Spirit.

It is in these ever present and ever receiving comforts, daily afforded to each one of us, that we continue steadily in this Season of Advent. It is in these comforts also that we are ready and willing to receive the comforting treasures being revealed to us, in the First Coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. May we not put His First Coming aside, as that which has already happened and spend our time looking only to His Second Coming. There is still treasure to treasure up and ponder in each receiving heart.

Holy, long-expected Jesus, You have come and we give God all praise and thanks for You.
O God Incarnate, Word made flesh, we confess that many still do not know that to them a Saviour has come and wants to be born in them, today.
O Holy Saviour, born a Child and yet a King, have mercy upon all who do not yet know the blessings and comforts of Your First Coming.
Holy Spirit, take control and bring us all to Your feet, in absolute submission to You. Rule in each heart, dear all-sufficient Holy Spirit that each one of us will receive Your Light and Your Peace,  in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Season. Amen!
