Looking Around The Stone Of Hazor

Look around the Northern Countries, from east, west, north and south of that kingdom and most of what you will see and hear about, is Hazor. This was so because Hazor was the head, the lead country of the Northern Countries. Hazor beforetime was the head of all those Kingdoms. Joshua 11: 10b. It was seen as the pillar of strength and supremacy. Hazor’s conquests were legendary and none could shift that stone of power and strength. Hazor, with her reigning king, Jabin, held very great prominence. All this was true, until Israel came on the scene.

God had promised Abraham that He would give his descendants, a bountiful land, flowing with milk and honey. It was a land sufficient for the twelve tribes of Israel and God would bless them in it. In Ezekiel 20: 6, this is how God describes the land. On that day I raised My hand in an oath to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I have searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, the glory of all lands.

However, in order to take possession of the land, they had to drive out those who lived there. God’s command was for them to conquer the territories that He named. Of interest, is the fact that the people who lived in these regions, were like giants and not many around could conquer them in battle.

Hazor was one of those places air-marked for conquering. Now Joshua and all Israel had conquered the Southern countries and all their kings. So Joshua conquered all the land: the mountain country and the South and the lowland and the wilderness slopes, and all their kings; he left  none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded. Joshua 10: 40. This was only possible, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel. Joshua 10: 42b.  When the king of Hazor heard what had taken place in the South, he gathered together all the nations around and put together an invincible army, to wipe out little Israel. Allied by all the nations around, Hazor was as a mighty fortress, a stone of strength, unconquerable, with big, strong fighting men, as the sand that is on the seashore in multitude, with very many horses and chariots. Joshua 11: 4b.

It was such an unconquerable stone of invincible strength, in the eyes of Joshua and the army of God, that God had to speak and reassure His servant Joshua and Israel’s little army. But the LORD said to Joshua, Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow about this time I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. Joshua 11: 6b.

I refer to Hazor as a stone for, looking around and about her, before she was taken by Joshua, Hazor was a nation: -

·         Strong – This country was not afraid to attack others around.

·         Triumphant – This country had no previous history of defeats. Triumph was synonymous with its name.

·         Official – This was no fake leadership, as Hazor was officially known and received as the head of the territories, the chief ruling force.

·         Named – Here was a place that carried a mighty name for itself, as it was well-respected by nations around.

·         Elite – Among her people, neighbours, and those in the vicinity, Hazor was great and commanded great respect.

Joshua knew all this about Hazor, yet it was God’s command to him, through Moses, to fight and conquer this stone.

God, who is Omniscient, knows the heart of His servant Joshua and encourages him to face this impossibility, this Stone of Hazor, in His Name, for He has already given the victory to him. Joshua goes to face Hazor’s allied, Strength, Triumphs, Office, Name, and Elitism, this invincible Stone, believing in God’s Power, God’s Promise and God’s Presence with him. It was his faith and nothing but his faith, that: -

Persuaded Joshua to begin this battle.

Propelled him to follow through with it.

Pleased God to work wonders through His obedient servant.

The Stone of Hazor became rubble in the hands of Joshua. And Joshua at that time turned back and took Hazor. Joshua 11: 10a. We were also shown that all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded. But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor, that did Joshua burn. Joshua 11: 12 - 13.

Look around! See the Lord! Receive His Truth. Jesus, Saviour, Son of God, the One True Living Stone, will take down any Stone of Hazor.
