Lasts, With Jesus, Before Dying
As I come to this hour, I suddenly hear these words in my mind. Here is the last will and testament of…
We all know that the last will and testament, is the final wish or order of a person, pertaining to his or her assets, before that person dies. Most curiously though, my mind is now pointed to Jesus and the curiosity becomes more puzzling. What are you thinking? Where is your mind taking you, when it comes to Jesus? I for one, never ever thought of Jesus being included as a Person who made or left a last will or testament. I’m a bit tentative here, for this is so puzzling and strange to me. Does anyone else feel a bit as I do?
All I know is that our Lord knows what our carnal, human minds are like, so that He perseveres with us, granting us different minds, minds in Him. He is giving and we are receiving, as our faith and trust allow.
Holy Spirit, take my mind and please grant me the mind that was in our Lord Jesus. I’m asking, because I know that He too was human, with a human mind like mine, yet He also had a different mind, knowing, showing and using it to the approval and pleasure of Father God. Take my mind, take all of it that I may learn and live, as is pleasing unto God. Amen!
Fully surrendered, our minds guided and guarded by the Holy Spirit, we are led to focus on ourselves, believers, and some of the words and phrases we so often speak concerning our Jesus. These are what we speak, without often knowing what we are really saying. Too often we are devoid of all meaning and these words and phrases are just loose on our tongues. I shall list them as they have been brought to me.
We speak of: -
Jesus’ Last Supper – This is His final meal with His disciples, before He is crucified. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until the day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’ kingdom. Matthew 26: 29
Jesus’ Last Words – These are what He speaks from the Cross. Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. When he had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23: 46b.
Jesus’ Last Miracle – This is what is recorded, as He is taken prisoner to be crucified. When Jesus was arrested, one of His disciples, struck and cut off the ear of one of the many soldiers, who had come heavily armed, to arrest Jesus. Jesus ordered! No more of that! And he touched the man’s ear and healed him. Luke 22: 51b
Jesus’ Last Words to His Mother – We are reliably informed by John that as Jesus hung on the cross and He saw His mother, and John standing nearby, He spoke these words to her. Dear woman, here is your son, and to the disciple, Here is your mother. From that time on, the disciple took her into his home. John 19: 26b - 27
Jesus’ Last Word of Grace – A sinner, a thief, being crucified the same time as Jesus, seeks forgiveness and salvation from the dying Jesus. Jesus turns to this sinner and assures him of answered prayer. I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23: 43b
Jesus’ Last Prayer for you – Are you a believer! Then do you realise that Jesus prayed this prayer for you, just before He was crucified? Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them. John 17: 25 - 26
We have been reminded of occasions, when Jesus spoke and did last things, words and actions specifically done, before His death.
Did Jesus leave a will and testament there?
You determine, with the Spirit’s enlightening.
