Here He Is
People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them. Luke 17: 23.
We have looked at the first two facts, People will tell you, and There he is! Here is the third fact. Here he is! The word, here, gives description and understanding of the place where a thing is, or a person is. It does however, give specifically coordinated detail, direction, or markers of where someone, or something is. Additionally, it does give the understanding that whatever the location, the person is right here with you. The descriptive word, here, never depicts that which is a good way off, or a short way off. It describes what is here, near, right here with you.
Jesus’ people are longing to see the Son of Man. It is to these vulnerable people, these longing people, these looking people, that, others will tell you things which are nothing but lies. Jesus is warning His disciples, yes, you and me also, about what will transpire. Upfront, what we must realize is that this word is serious and most dangerous. The grave danger comes because, in our longing state, we can easily be deceived and become unbelievers. Unbelief is a sin, a grave one at that.
This is what we are cautioned and warned about in Hebrews 3: 12. See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns from the living God. Then, later on, in the same chapter, we are told and shown God’s mind on unbelief. And to whom did God swear that they would not enter his rest if not those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. Hebrews 3: 18 – 19. This clearly brings light to the fact that disobedience and unbelief go together.
Even in our longing state, when we wish to see just one of the days of the Son of Man, Jesus has already informed that we will not see it. The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Luke 17: 22b. Heed the words of the Lord, for all His words are true and He never makes mistakes, speaking out of turn, nor does He deceive anyone. Therefore, when people tell you, Here He is, do not even bother to listen.
Regardless of how they make it appear to be real and true, and despite how they bring the Son of Man to be right here with you, do not believe them. To believe them, will be to disbelieve Jesus. To accept what people are telling you about the placing of the Son of Man, being here, next to you and close to you, is to be in blatant disobedience to the Lord.
In that time, concerning the Son of Man, there will be no seeing of Him. If there is no seeing or sighting of Him, why then would you listen to people, anyone for that matter, believer or unbeliever, who tells you to look there or to look here? Whether near of far, whether here or there, seeing of the Son of Man is impossible. According to our Lord and Master, the all-knowing and all-revealing, here and there, are no options, in that time of longing to see one of the days of the Son of Man. Jesus has spoken!
