Jesus, Son of Man, has spoken these words to His disciples. Beyond the shadow of any doubt, even with our carnal minds, we all can hear the warning, cautionary words which Jesus is speaking to them, and all of us who are His disciples.
People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them. Luke 17: 23.
Jesus, Bright Morning Star, has shone His light of truth for His people to see. We know that He is shining His insightful, revealing, accenting light, not on everyone, but on His disciples, His followers, who are in a seeking, longing state. Then he said to his disciples, The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Luke 17: 22. He is speaking about a time, when His disciples, His servants, will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but no amount of longing, desiring and wishing, will make them see one such time.
However, people will try to convince them otherwise, people whose light is not streaming from Him, the Bright Morning star. These are people, fully deceived by Satan, who is also known as, morning star. Listen to what the Scripture tells us about this morning star. How have you fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations. Isaiah 14: 12. Most insightful!
Both Jesus, Bright Morning Star and Satan, morning star have come to earth from heaven. Satan was cast down, thrown out of heaven, punishment forever, and cursed of Father God. Jesus, on the other hand, came down to earth, blessed and beloved by Father God. It is He, Son of Man, blessed and preserved by the Father, who is warning us against this specific time. People will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them.
Jesus has spoken this Word and there are four exposing facts to be received and believed. Even in this, it is clear that Jesus does not want His own being deceived by Satan, who will come as a morning star, shedding false light, to our Lord’s disciples.
Fact 1 - People will tell you.
The pronoun, you, refers specifically to disciples of Jesus. Jesus spoke to His disciples and told them that the time will come, when they will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but they will not see it. This word is not for everybody. This word is strictly for disciples of Jesus. A disciple is a learner, a student of another. All disciples are taught by their masters.
You are a disciple, because you have denied yourself, taken up your cross and followed Jesus.
You are a disciple, when you are surrendered to Jesus and learn only from Him.
You are a disciple, when nothing of self, reigns and you are totally and fully offered and committed to Jesus.
You are a disciple, when you are so ready, obedient and giving of your all to Jesus, that you begin to look like Him in all that you do and say.
You are a disciple of Jesus, when He is your Example and Pattern to follow.
Are you a disciple of Jesus? This then is for you?
Even now, Holy Spirit, Counsellor, Teacher and Guide, guard my hearing and mind in this time of receiving. Train and school me that I may hear and see with the Spirit’s understanding and insight. Grant me the grace to know that I have indeed surrendered myself to You and that I am not living in the deceit of my pride and arrogance. Stay me Lord! Stay me! Amen!
Perhaps, you are becoming a bit concerned and bothered in your mind, about all of this. With some of you, questions begin to formulate in your heads and there are many jumbled thoughts which would take hold of you. You are thinking things like this. Why this word? Why would the Master have to speak to His disciples about something like this? Why should such a longing come to them, disciples and followers of Jesus, they who have given all, left all, and follow after Him?
Before moving on, we need a bit of background.
This will be looked at tomorrow.
