Where Is The Blood

Have you noticed the place where the blood is? Listen again. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. Exodus 12: 7.

You see, the blood is not placed on the individual, but on the house to which the individual belongs, or the house in which the individual is found. It is only if one remains in the house that one is guaranteed that salvation. Is there not still a curfew given by Almighty God that must be heeded?

The shed Blood of Jesus has already been placed on the three sides of the door. We all know and believe by faith that Jesus is the Door to our salvation. This is what John reliably reports Jesus as saying about Himself. John is giving first hand reporting, for he was present to hear Jesus tell them this truth. Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. John 10: 7b. The sheep, refer to all who are presently in His fold and all who are still to be brought in. As reinforcement, Jesus repeats this fact. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. John 10: 9. Jesus is the door and He is our dwelling place.

It stands to reason then, if we are to understand the old works as a shadow of the new, and Jesus is our door and our dwelling, then we are saved by the shed Blood of Jesus, our Passover or Pascal Lamb, because we are in a Blood-stained house. Before taking any step on, we must realize that as people living in this world of sin and darkness, we are saved by the work Jesus wrought on the Cross, saved from slavery to sin and the power of sin over us. However, it is precisely because we have been delivered, that we need daily salvation from our Blood-marked Saviour, to keep us from yielding to the temptations of the evil one and so inculcating the wrath of God upon us.

We must be in Jesus. We must remain in Him, because He carries the Blood upon Him, not you and me.  Jesus, the Door to the Kingdom, carries the Blood, so that when Sovereign, Almighty God sends His destructive plague, He will see the Blood and pass over that Door. God and God alone is the Sovereign One who brings destruction and judgment to all idolaters and their gods. I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destruction will touch you when I strike Egypt. Exodus 12: 12b – 13.

As we come near to the end of this week of travel, we pause to receive these two blood-truths, being offered to us as blood-pictures.

The first blood-picture shows the door of an Israelite house. Listen to a little background information, which makes the complete backdrop or setting for this Blood-picture. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. Exodus 12: 5 – 7.

There are some necessary preparations which have been stipulated by God. In other words, the mere killing of the animal is not enough. There must be obedience and adherence to what God has said must take place.

Choosing of the Sacrifice – The families themselves, not God, but the people themselves, have to choose a specified animal from their stock.

Caring of the Sacrifice – The chosen animals are given special treatment and care for fourteen days. They are chosen and set apart for their special service. They are the ones to care for these chosen animals.

Slaughtering of the Sacrifice – On the stipulated day, at the right time, the twilight time, the animals are to be killed.

It is from these animals that blood must be taken to place on the sides and tops of the doorframes where they will eat the lambs.

Note two crucial facts about the blood. The blood is placed, not on any house, but on the house where they are eating the lambs. You see, depending on the size of families, sharing is taking place. My faith allows me to see houses being shared, as sacrifices are being shared, all God’s ordering. In other words, families and near neighbours, may be in one blood-marked house. If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. Exodus 12: 4.

We are the new Israel and we too have the three sides of our Door, Jesus, marked with His Blood. How can this be? What are the three sides?

We conclude tomorrow, looking at this and viewing the second blood-picture.
