Third Day Of The New Year

On this third day of the New Year, I’m thinking to myself, what a privilege! This is quite obvious and most visible, yet this is a mystical and spiritual moment for me, which I want to share with you. I’m sharing this with three top reasons in mind.

  • I’m sharing this, because I know for a fact, I’m not the alone person with such thoughts.

  • I’m sharing this, because I know for a fact, some have thought about them briefly, but have dismissed them, for what is more important and beneficial to them at the moment.

  • I'm sharing this, because I know for a fact, others have not thought such thoughts.

About what am I speaking? What is this mystical moment of which I am speaking? It is the thought that literally grabbed me when I was made to see this fact. I am living the third day of a yet un-weaned, new born year, 2025 and the penultimate day of a mixed week of the New Year, 2025. This fact is real, true and actively pertinent in all who are alive today. It is made even more endearing and most mystical for all who, by faith, receive God’s Generous Gift of Grace and Mercy, Everlasting, to live as His children. As God’s children, abiding in Him, we have been taken from all our darkness, and now live in His marvellous light.

Here are a few facts upon which we marvel, as Jesus Christ continues to be our Divine, Heavenly Light; as Little Baby, Growing Boy, Serving Brother, Saviour Beloved, Living Bread and Vital Breath.

Today is the third day of a new born year, yet to be weaned.

For many of us, like myself, we are drinking the fresh, first milk of this New Year, as we are still receiving reminders of the fundamentals, the elementary, the beginning ‘food’ or ‘bread’ if you like. The word, to be walking in the Light, for example, is fundamental, because without Light, we are a pathetic people, stumbling about in this world of darkness. We are yet receiving this milk, with the hope of moving on to more solid food.  We receive Paul’s wise admonition, in Hebrews 5: 13 – 14. Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Today, Lord, we are feeding on milk, but our hope is set on receiving solid food. Amen!

Today is the penultimate day of a week.

Indeed, today is the eve of the end of the first week in the New Year. It is the day before the end. What significance is there for us in this time, as we face the end of the first week in our New Year? For many, this is a most scary and daunting thought, that one whole week is simply zipping by. However, if we by faith keep standing in the Living Light of Jesus, Light of the world, we will know uplifting of spirits and not any down casting of hearts. I offer you two pictures of encouragement.

The first is that of our Lord and Saviour Jesus, on the night that He was betrayed. Have you realised that it was the penultimate day of His human life on earth, before He was crucified, died and was buried? It was on such a time, He instituted the Lord’s Supper, as He celebrated the Passover with His disciples; that which we as believers continue to observe and do in remembrance of Him. Listen and receive. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying, Take and eat; this is my body. Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them saying, Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until the day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom. Matthew 26: 26 – 29.

On this day, before the end of this first week, be encouraged, and uplifted, as you remember the miracle of love, poured out for you as believers. It was on a time as this time that Life-giving grace was instituted by our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Receive the Lord’s blessings and live in Him.

The second picture of encouragement is that of a faithful servant of our Lord, Jesus, on the day before he was to die. We are looking at Peter, a disciple of Jesus, who has been arrested by Herod at a time when Herod’s intent was to arrest as many disciples of Jesus as possible, give them a bogus trial and kill them. He has Peter arrested, awaiting his false trial. This is what we are told in Acts 12: 6 – 7. The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. Quick, get up! he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. The picture goes on to show us how Peter, under the orders of the Lord’s angel, dressed himself and walked briskly out of that prison and Herod’s, murderous hands.

Continue to be encouraged and take heart, for on a day like today, see how our Lord can make it a miracle day for you. Know and believe that in this day, this eve of some unpleasant outcome even, God will break your shackles, snatch you from the enemy, free you from your imprisonment, and lead you away in miraculous style.

Accept our Lord’s freedom and live in Him.

We will conclude the end of this mixed week with more reminders of our Lord’s grace and goodness to us, in powerful pictures and images of truth.
