Spirit And Humanity

Straightway, we begin with our discourse, which stems from this question, Did the Lord God say that His Holy Spirit came to make Jesus totally Divine and rid Him of His humanity? This is a crucial question, crucial and vital to our understanding and acceptance of the work of the Spirit in us.

Let’s pause to seek the Spirit’s sight and insight.

Holy Father, we thank You for Jesus and His Love for us. We thank You that You gave Him to us and that He has made You known to us. Holy Father, our Father in heaven, please grant us the mind that was in Christ Jesus that we may be enabled by Your Holy Spirit to receive and learn. Amen!

By faith, we know and accept that God’s Gift of the Holy Spirit came, not to kill the human and accentuate the divine. That is what the deceiver uses to tempt us, deceive us and confuse us. We must hold ever in mind that when God Incarnate came in Jesus, He who is totally divine took on total humanity, so that in one Man, Jesus, both the divine and the carnal lived.

Please listen attentively, and hear this. This is what you and I fall for, from the deceiver, without even being fully aware of it. We know that we believe in the Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus, so that the human Jesus is no more.  Somehow, to many a believer, the human God, the Son of Man, has been dismantled. We are made to believe that the human Jesus remained in the grave. The Incarnate God returned to His totally Divine Spirit, so that when God sent His Spirit, we see only Spirit.

May our Lord help us to understand this clearly. The One who is Spirit, has come to do the works of Jesus in you, and in me, we who are frail, carnal human beings. Through the One, Holy Spirit, God is able to make you, the totally human person, totally divine. Yes, through His Spirit, He is able to put His divinity to live and work in your human person. You and I are to be the risen sons and daughters of the Risen Christ. It is Christ who has given you to know a changed life, a new and different life. It is the life where He says to you that He has given you His Name, so that in His Name, you will ask the Father and He will grant your request.

I don’t know what this is doing to you, but this I do know. Our Lord wants us to believe Him and all that He, in His grace, has poured out upon us. I do know that He wants every single believer to know that the Holy Spirit raised a body when He raised Jesus from the grave, since the Divine cannot die. Remember it is the same Spirit, who raised the dead Body of Jesus from the grave, who will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. Romans 8: 11b. It is because of this that many questions have begun to become alive in me. Many questions have begun to boggle the mind. Do you share any of these with me?

One of the most pressing questions was this. I hear servants of God on the radio and Television, healing people, casting out demons and saying most emphatically, “In the Name of Jesus.”  But is it only for those special people? Can we not also quietly approach the throne of grace and in His Name, through His Abiding Holy Spirit, ask?  But again, it is made clear. Our Jesus did not tell His disciples that He will ask the Father on their behalf. He is saying to them, distinctly and clearly, that they will ask the Father in His Name, and the Father will respond as He does to Jesus.

I also know that it is not just simply the pronunciation of the Name Jesus, for anyone can call the Name of Jesus. I know that this is not what Jesus is saying here, when we are told to ask in the Name of Jesus.  We have made this into a kind of ‘good luck charm’, a kind of superstition, a mental chant like.  It is what we hope hard for, what we practise over and over again, to make us believe.  It is as an idol to many of us, now.  We keep chanting His Name like this. In the Name of Jesus, I will do this or not do that. In the name of Jesus, I will claim this or that. Albeit, when it is not materialised, we become so very despondent and think that we are failures, and that the promise is probably only for some. But we are again shown very simply, just what Jesus has said and is still saying.

Look at the seed, the tiny, insignificant seed even.  It dies, so that in its rising, it comes up spreading itself in the only way that the birds of the air may find rest. When you die to self, the Holy Spirit takes over and in Jesus’ Name, lives in you. Here is it plainly. In My NAME you will ask the Father.

My Nature, which is Love

My Action, which is Obedience

My Manner, which is Visible

My Example, which is Encompassing.

To ask in Jesus’ Name is to be His Name, to be the human Christ here on earth, which is absolutely, only possible, through the Holy Spirit.

May we be brought to this place in Christ, so that with the key in our hands, we do not stand outside calling for Jesus to come down from heaven, to do what, enabled through the Holy Spirit, He has empowered us to do and be. May the Lord Jesus help us. Amen!
