Blood Works - First Order

We begin today with a bold, loud statement of fact. All blood does not save. As previously mentioned, we are contrasting two facts, the shadow and the substance or the old dispensation with the new dispensation.

Here’s a familiar text, related to the first Passover and the shedding of blood, the blood that was able to save the Hebrew people from the angel of death. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. Exodus 12: 5.

It is from this well-known text that we are receiving much, which will help us to understand more about Jesus, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. There are three questions before us which, when viewed in light of this verse, will change much of our understanding, believing, receiving and giving of Blood Works. These questions ask: -

  • Who is the Person from whom the blood comes?

  • Where is the Place from which the blood works?

  • What is the Purpose for the blood works?

Let’s first come to some commonly accepted facts. John 3: 16 - 17.  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Jesus came to save the world, not condemn the world. In other words, it is through His Precious Blood that the world may be saved. The Precious Blood of Jesus is not for condemnation, but for the salvation of all who believe.

This is what we are told in 1 John 1: 7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. The Precious Blood of Jesus is powerful enough to completely, fully and thoroughly cleanse us from all sin. Think of your sins. The Blood of Jesus is sufficient for you. Think of the sins of others, which you coil and cringe at. Think of those most gross, ghastly and totally bizarre sins, which have put men and women away for life. The Blood of Jesus is powerful enough to cleanse those hearts also. We therefore stand on the promise and premise that we are saved from everlasting hell and death, through the shed Blood of Jesus Christ, Son of God.

Who is the Person from whom the Blood comes?

We all will, with one accord, shout the answer, to be Jesus. Yes, we believe that it is Jesus’ Blood Works, which have saved us and continues to save us. But how do we see Jesus in relation to the requirements given by God to Moses, regarding the animal from whom the blood must come, to save the Hebrew people? In the text, we saw how God told Moses to tell His people to use the blood of animals. God was also quite specific, strict and unmovably serious about the blood that would do the works, which He wanted done. He gave four orders regarding these animals.

First Order Regarding Blood Works

This animal had to be a male animal.

Our text specifically states that the goat or lamb has to be a male. As obvious and almost wearying as this may seem to some, I believe that this obvious has to be stated. One may hear God’s command and obey it in terms of choosing a goat or a lamb, but may choose one that is a female or one that is a eunuch. As healthy and strong as these animals may be, unless they are male in form and function, their blood will not be suitable for the work. The female is the one who produces life, from the seed of the male. God, in His wisdom sought the blood of the male. The Eunuch was seen as neither male nor female. Eunuchs were males who were castrated, so that they could not perform the function of the male, in procreation. In plain, frank talk then, the animal had to be a pure he-goat or he-lamb.

Where is our Jesus in this picture? Simple, you say. Jesus is the Son of God. At Jesus’ baptism, when heaven was opened, we were told that the Spirit of God descended like a dove and lighted on Jesus. Matthew records that a voice from heaven spoke these words. This is my Son whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Matthew 3: 17b.

Additionally, Jesus is known as the second Adam or the last Adam. Listen to what is written in 1 Corinthians 15: 45b – 47. The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven.

We can safely and truthfully confess that God’s order for Blood Works was filled in Jesus, Son of God.
