Your Weakness - His Strength

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12: 9a.

Along with our Lord’s sufficient grace, can you also hear Jesus saying this to you?

I offer you My power, for it is made perfect in weakness. Yes, you are only human and all human beings are weak, but if you accept My power, as I give it, no augmenting of it, it will be made perfect in you. What is our Lord saying to us about His perfect power or strength?

It has been brought to me like this. Gail has to come before the judge to defend false, malicious, accusations brought against her, by enemies who are being led by a most crafty lawyer. She is highly incapable of defending herself and is all sick with worry. A friend of hers knows a lawyer whom she recommends. The lawyer is pleased to take Gail’s case and tells her that she must trust him. He then tells her not to bother about a thing, for his expertise, knowledge and skill come to their highest points when he is defending the weak and helpless, as she is. Who this lawyer is, is seen clearly, when he defends the weakest of the weak.

When our Jesus tells us that His strength is made perfect in weakness, He is not talking exaggerations or wishful, high ideals. He knows precisely our human weakness and if He says that His power bears perfect fruit in weakness, then it is definitely so. Live His strength, not your weakness.

The evil one knows the power of the Holy Spirit more than you and I know it. He also knows that when the Lord speaks, He is genuine and true about every single word and promise, He makes. However, the enemy knows that to access the Lord’s power, to know His working power in our lives, faith is the one and only way. He knows that without the believing, trusting faith that stands on its own, none of us will receive power or strength in our weakness. So what does the enemy do? He comes to you and me.

Note the wisdom, astuteness and utter craftiness of the evil one. He never touches the power of God, for he knows that he is under the authority of God. He never tells you that what God speaks, claims and promises are lies. In other words, the devil does not interfere with the strength of God. Check it out for yourself and in yourself. He comes to you in your human nature – your frailty, weakness, impotence and powerlessness – appealing to your humanness and thereby gets you to make the power of God dead to you. You then are kept, for example, quoting the scripture, My power is made perfect in weakness, while remaining perfect in worry, doubt, anxiety, negativity and the darkness of fear.

How can I still be living in darkness, while claiming Divine Light? How can I be evidencing my weakness, while claiming the Strength of the Holy Spirit? Honesty does not allow me to deceive myself in this anymore. My quick and bold response to these and other questions, is that I am only human and such are the responses of humans.

O how utterly deceived so many of us are? O how stubbornly disobedient we are. We are the ones blocking the grace and power of God in our needy lives.

We conclude tomorrow, DV.
