Why The Blood

Earlier, in our travels with our leading, guiding Holy Spirit, mention was made that during this time, we would be contrasting two facts, the shadow and the substance or the old dispensation with the new dispensation, in relation to Blood Works. These well-known texts, related to the first Passover and the shedding of blood, which was able to save the Hebrew people from the angel of death, were quoted. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. Exodus 12: 5.

On the same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destruction will touch you when I strike Egypt. Exodus 12: 12 – 13.

Three questions were brought to us, which we looked at in light of those verses. Our hope was that as we studied them, much of our understanding, believing and receiving would change. These were the questions.

  • Who is the Person from whom the blood comes?

  • Where is the Place from which the blood works?

  • What is the Purpose for the blood works?

Of the three questions posed, two have already been brought to us and now we embark on the final one. We proceed, fully confident and joyfully assured that all His Blood promises will be received through our unyielding submission and obedience to remaining in Jesus.

I can hear us all joyfully responding to the question about blood. What is the purpose for the blood, or why the Blood? Assuredly, responses such as these will be given. The blood is for our salvation, or, the blood is for our cleansing. These are perfectly correct, and we continue to thank God for Jesus, His Sacrificial Lamb, who takes away the sin of the world.

Purposefully then and with resolute steps, we will traverse the Word of God, in order to receive deeper and fuller insights into the purpose of the Blood of Jesus. However, we need to start, from the beginning, to realize some crucial facts about the reason for the Blood. To do this, we need to return to the first Passover, where we are given clear instruction and information regarding the purpose of the blood of the sacrificial animal, on the doorframes of the Israelite houses.

We are aptly reminded of the situation of the people of Israel who are living in the world of Egypt. They are slaves in the land and are certainly not living as Father God would have His children live. We are listening to God, who has gone to where, Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. Exodus 3: 1. We note with deep interest that it is God who goes to Moses and sends him to liberate God’s people. This pulls us back, and places us in the right mind about this fact. It was the same God, who also sent Jesus to liberate us, His children.

God sent Moses to liberate His children from slavery in Egypt, under the oppressive power of Pharaoh.

God sent Jesus to liberate His children from slavery in the earth, under the oppressive power of Satan.

It was all God’s mind, move and mission to save His children.

God is not happy that anyone should be lost. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promises, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3: 9.  He does all that is necessary to ensure our salvation, which is given as a free gift to all who will believe.
