On this Lord’s Day Sunday, many a believer is celebrating the gift of at least two fathers.

Today is being celebrated as Father’s Day, where people are honouring fathers in all different, creative ways and loving expressions. Fathers are being thanked for their goodness and kindness to their own child or children and to other children as well. We know that many men, who are not biological fathers, are today held in high esteem and are loved and praised for being a father to many people. We name all brothers, uncles, godfathers, nephews and sons, along with all fathers, who have sired children. We pray for them that they will always be mindful of the special role which God has given to them to be His earthly servants to His children. As they love and serve Father God, they are to love and nurture each child, as God the Father loves and cares for them.

For all of you fathers - biological, spiritual and both – this one is specially for you.

You’ve been given children, so you’re a father,
A gift given to you by God, no other,
Ere children are given biologically.
Or placed in your care, spiritually,
God looks at you closely, His works to do,
He wants the best father in all of you;
Be the best you can be, there’s no substitute,
For when God, this sacred work did institute,
He never left you on your own to cope,
He gave the Helper, to be your strength and hope,
That trusting in Him for wisdom and insight,
You’ll bring up your children in God’s ways, aright,
Whether it’s your first or umpteenth father’s day,
Cherish your children in a special way;
I pray, Father God, be your Father Hero,
That in you, earthly fathers, God’s love they’ll know;
God the Father bless you, from His Holy place,
God the Son smile upon you, with His great grace,
God the Spirit endue you, with His pure wisdom,
Fitting you and yours for God’s heavenly Kingdom.
Amen!

We can have a day, designated to celebrating our earthly fathers, because we have a Heavenly Father who is our Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent God. God is our Heavenly Father and He has made this fact well known. I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. 2 Corinthians 6: 18. God’s love for us as a Father, goes beyond our wildest imaginations.  How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are! 1 John 3: 1a. One thing for sure is that He wants us to trust Him, put all our confidence in Him and know that His desire for us, is to have all that is His. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Luke 12: 32.

Indeed, we are children of one Heavenly Father, our Triune God, who loves us dearly.

Today, believers all over the world are also celebrating Trinity Sunday. As children of the Father, believers and followers of Him, we offer our highest and loftiest praise to God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is only through God, Blessed Holy Spirit, who has been shed abroad in our hearts that we can truly come before God the Father, through God the Son. We have and live in His hope, since, hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5: 5. Trinity reminds us that we serve One God, Three Persons in One.

We listen to the Apostle Paul, taught and kept by the Holy Spirit, speaking words of Holy Spirit wisdom to the Church. He is speaking to those who are having issues with food offered to idols. We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live. 1 Corinthians 8: 4b – 6.

Thanks to the Father who makes all one,
Thanks to the Spirit who gives new birth,
Thanks for the saving Blood of the Son,
Thanks to God, who gives each life new worth.
Amen!
