Where He Leads, We Follow

Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow,
I’ll go with Him, with Him, all the way.

This well-known refrain of a hymn by E. W. Blandly, is a favourite of many of us. Though penned in the 1890’s, we still sing, hum and speak this hymn, on various occasions, for different reasons. In fact, even now as your attention is drawn to the refrain, I can just imagine you singing it, with a smile on your face, recommitting to Jesus, to follow Him all the way. Jesus is the Way and where He leads, is always to Him and never away from Him.

O yes my friend and journeying companion in Jesus, there are times when we think that we are being led the wrong way, because what we are hearing and seeing do not in any form or fashion, look like what we know our God to be. The path before us defies the laws of God and all our holy traditions which have stood throughout the ages of time. We are convinced without any doubts whatever, that we are following the wrong path. These are the times when things become so dark and dismal, you seriously wonder how this can be the Way of Jesus, when Jesus is Light and in Him is no darkness.

There are times also, when you know you have given your burdens and cares to Jesus, and have taken His yoke upon you, but have found it unbearably heavy, where you are bending and breaking with its weight. You doubt that it is of Jesus, because He said that His yoke is easy and His burden is light and you will find rest for your soul. But instead of rest, all you know, day and night, is suffering upon suffering from ever quarter of your life.

My family in Jesus, let us not doubt that God, our heavenly Father, is leading us and we are following Him in His Son Jesus. Let not the wicked one place all kinds of erroneous thoughts in our minds about our Lord and Leader. Remember our forefathers, and how the evil one pressed them to the point where they distrusted Moses, God’s sent leader and His salvation for them. True, they were held by human fears and anxieties and yes, they could only see death before them, but God had life before Him and a mighty, miraculous plan of Salvation as never before experienced. Let not that same wicked enemy bring upon us thoughts and ideas that Jesus is not whom we are following, because of what we are facing in our present lives.

Keep following Jesus ere the road is rough, all around you is darkness, and you feel burdened down. Sin is not dead. No! Sin is very much alive and active, making great use of every opportunity to turn believers, old and new, away from following Jesus. Follow, even when the way is dark. Follow, though there is not one spark of light for you see. Follow and fight the good fight of faith that binds fear, so that you will no longer be depending on your sight in fear, but your sight in faith. Faith allows you to see Jesus, your Light, within you. Faith grants you freedom to know Jesus, your Peace, within you, in the midst of the turmoil that’s all around you.

Regardless of what may or may not be, let us ever follow Jesus.

To be led by Jesus is to follow life: Jesus is the Life.

To be led by Jesus is to follow Truth: Jesus is the Truth.

To be led by Jesus is to follow Peace: Jesus is the Peace.

To be led by Jesus is to follow a Saviour: Jesus is our Saviour.

All through this week we shall she how people responded to hearing the call of Jesus, the Living Word and how they followed Him all the way.

Thank You Jesus, for Your loving kindness and tender mercies. Amen!
