Is this not a very blessed Lord’s Day Sunday, indeed? It is blessed for scores of reasons, some personal and private and others, simply because it is the day of worship for many. With all the genuine, legitimate and noble reasons one can advance, I ask you to join me in this time of thanksgiving. Today is a day of privileged firsts. Yes, we know that Sunday is the first day of any given week and we give praise and thanks. We also know that it was on a Sunday that our Lord and Saviour rose from the grave giving us living memory of His power over hell, sin, death and the grave. However, we are doubly blessed today, because we have been chosen by Father God to step into the first day of a brand new month, on the first day of the week.

Just to be able to say, Today is Sunday, the first day in October, does something thrilling to you, does it not?

May Jesus Christ be praised!

Who is this Jesus? I bring you one of many texts in the Bible, which tells you about the Name of Jesus.

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name. Philippians 2: 9 NKJV

I offer you this poem to march us forward, in this week, when we shall be looking at the Names of Biblical Characters.

Jesus, Sweet Name

My breast is filled with its sweetness,

What room is there for bitterness?

With Jesus, Name so sweet, so dear,

Who can with His sweet Name compare?

There is no voice, no human tongue,

No myriad crowd, no holy throng,

That can Jesus’ sweet Name speak,

They all fall short, we are too weak.

The Name of Jesus still can heal,

For nought His power can conceal,

His Name to all who seek and call,

Will find it sweet, best overall.

Come one, come all the weak, the strong,

All who to Jesus Christ belong,

Backslider, sinner He saves you,

In Name so sweet, saves fully too.

Precious Name! Most beautiful still,

I’ll trust His Name forever, till,

He calls me home His face to see,

Sweeter I know His Name will be.

Amen!
