On this final Lord’s Day Sunday in the month of May, we have been given this wonderful opportunity to receive more learning. This learning is only possible because of He who is our Teacher and Counsellor. We cannot forget what our Lord and Master said about Him, the Holy Spirit. We shall listen to this from the King James Version.

Jesus is preparing His disciples for the time when He will leave them in the flesh. He comforts them and assures them that they will not be left comfortless.

If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14: 15 – 17.

The Lord makes it plain to His disciples that He is telling them all these things while He is present with them, in the flesh, so that when He leaves, all that He has told them about the Holy Spirit, they will know, believe and accept. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you. John 14: 25 - 26.

On another occasion, when Jesus was apprising His servants of the persecutions they would face from unbelievers, for His sake, He assured them that it would all be out of ignorance and unbelief in that they did not know the Father, who sent Jesus. The world of unbelievers will hate them, because they hated Him and the Father. Says Jesus, If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. John 15: 24. In other words they have no more cloak or excuse for their ignorance, which is sin. Then Jesus again comforts His disciples with these words. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. John 15: 26 - 27.

We also remember Jesus telling the disciples that He had much to say to them, but they were not able, at that time, to handle and hold all that He had to say. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak and he will shew you things to come. John 16: 13. These Scripture verses are but a few of the several verses in the Bible. However, these are most sufficiently adequate for us to understand and note the point being made about Trinity. Have you realised? In each word Jesus spoke to His disciples, He was speaking of the Living, Active, working Trinity.

Jesus has not concealed, nor covered any truth about the unity of the Trinity. He names God, the Holy Ghost or Spirit, as the One who will come to indwell His disciples when He, God, the Son, returns to heaven, to be with God, the Father. There are some arresting facts given about how smoothly the Trinity works. At one time we hear Jesus saying that He, God, the Son, will pray to God, the Father and he shall give you another Comforter. The Son prays to the Father. He is not too One with the Father, too puffed up as it were, to pray to Him. In fact, it is because they are One that He prays to Him. We see this same togetherness and oneness in the Father. Note when the Father sends the Holy Ghost, the Comforter, He does not send Him in His own Name, but in the Name of Jesus. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name.  The Father is not too big, too full of Himself, so to speak, to not send the Comforter in His Son’s Name. In fact, it is because they are One that He can send the Holy Ghost in Jesus’ Name.

What about the Holy Spirit? He also evidences the exact humility and oneness. Scripture makes it abundantly clear that the Holy Ghost, who is the Spirit of Truth, when He comes, will not talk about Himself. He will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself. Jesus is the Person who has informed us that when the Spirit of Truth comes, he shall testify of me. The Holy Ghost is not too big, too full of Himself, to come as serving Jesus, and testifying of Jesus. In fact, it is because they are One that He can come to earth with all His power and testify to Jesus. There is no rivalry, no secrecy, no jealousy and no enmity among the Trinity.

But that’s obvious, you say? True! So why is it not obvious in those whom the Trinity indwells?
