We begin with the Bible Text, as was indicated in yesterday’s meditation.
And Joseph said to his brothers, Please come near me. So they came near. Then he said: I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are still five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvesting. And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and Lord of all his house, and ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. Hurry and go up to my father, and say to him, Thus says your son Joseph: God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not tarry. Genesis 45: 4 – 9 NKJV
Remember, the hymn, The Right Hand of God, is not our point of meditation, it only provides us with the six specific works of God. We will follow these acts of God’s Right Hand, in the order of the hymn.
How does stanza one of the hymn read? Here it is
The right hand of God is writing in our land, Writing with power and with love, Our conflicts and our fears, Our triumphs and our tears Are recorded by the right hand of God.
WRITING
The first action work of God’s Right Hand is, writing. He is writing in our place, our Church community, and it is Just Right and fitting, what He is writing. The Scripture tells us that Joseph said to his brothers, Please come near to me. The word said confers the understanding of write and vice versa. Is it not true that when we speak of what is written in the Bible, we confidently speak of God, saying this or that to us? Indeed! Does not faith allow you to know and understand that God is writing His Words in your heart and mind, we who are His Church, His believers? God is writing, but how do we hear what He is saying? How do we know what He is saying to us, even now?
The first thing faith allows us to know is that our God is our Heavenly Father and as Father, He is always speaking to His children. Like Joseph, our Father God is calling us all. He is telling us that He desires us all to come near to Him. We are reminded of this fact, as we listen to James 4: 8a. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Is this not one way in which the Right Hand of God is writing His truths in our hearts, to bring us closer to Him?
