The Spirit's Involvement

Can we now see more of the Spirit, working in Jesus as we have been shown in Mary? As with Mary, can we see the same overcoming, overshadowing and overpowering of the Spirit in Jesus, Son of Man?

This is what is being done to human flesh, Jesus, who is totally human. This is being done to Him by the Spirit; God is Spirit. To set the perfect picture for our understanding, we must appreciate, accept and with implicit faith, believe this to be true, in relation to Mary and Jesus. Mary was the human person chosen by Sovereign, Father God, to give physical life to His Son.  Jesus was the human person chosen by Sovereign, Father God, to give Spiritual life to His sons and daughters.

I must admit that when I heard the word, blood, and that both Mary and Jesus were similar in, blood, I was not as excited and enthusiastic to hear. I became somewhat scared like, the sort of fear that makes you not want to accept and believe. It is like, divinely off limits, so to speak, even to think of blood in relation to Mary and Jesus. How is this striking you? However wild this was for me, and perhaps is for some of you, we give thanks. We give great thanks to our understanding Holy Spirit, who knows how to speak peace into our troubled minds, hearts, and lagging feet.

God chose a woman to give birth to Jesus and in this process of birth, blood was involved, for Mary was a real woman who would have had to go through the path of giving birth, when the time came. How do we know that she had, or delivered Baby Jesus in the normal way? I mean, He was not conceived in the normal way. One may then argue, so why should she have Him in the normal way? Reasonable! Very much so! However, we have a bit of law, related to pregnancy that’s of interest.

Luke tells us that Joseph and Mary took the infant Child to Jerusalem to the temple to be consecrated and, to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: a pair of doves or two young pigeons. Luke 2: 24.  Leviticus tells us of the procedure for mothers, when the days of purification are over. She is to bring an offering to the priest of a year-old lamb and a young pigeon or a dove. He shall offer them before the LORD to make atonement for her, and then she will be ceremonially clean from her flow of blood. Leviticus 12: 7. However, if she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean. Leviticus 12: 8. We have been taken on this route, to show that blood had to be a part of the work God required of Mary in the birth of Jesus.

The question now is, whether or not the Spirit played the same pivotal and operational role in this work in Jesus. We are specifically referring to the Blood Work of Jesus. Can we apply the same power words, overcome, overshadow and overpower to Jesus? Has the Spirit worked miraculously in Jesus’ life also?

Mary is the human who humbled herself to the will of God, to use her in a most extraordinary way. We know that Jesus humbled Himself and sought only the will of God, to do as God desired. Scripture tells us that although Jesus was in very nature, God, He never ever used it to His advantage. Rather, He made Himself to be nothing, by taking the very nature of a servant, in His human flesh. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross! Philippians 2: 8

Holy Spirit, we thank You for leading us into travelling paths that are virgin territory for some, old territory for others and yet paths where You energize our faith and build greater confidence and trust in You. Forgive us for our moments of lapse - our lazy times, our proud times, our ignorant times, our sleepy times, our uninterested times – those times when we so easily turn away from You. Forgive us for the deceived attitude, that giving-up, resigned mentality, which give us a feeling of false peace and security. Divine, Holy Spirit, You are not a Spirit given to us to settle for anything less than You have come to give us. You who work in obedient human lives, save us from ourselves please. We sincerely and wholeheartedly surrender ourselves to You. Thank You for Your faithfulness to help us. Amen!
