The Place Of The Blood

We now return to the second part of the question, holding practical pictures, such as the one about the tag on the doorknobs at the hotel, which say, do not disturb. It is with these simple, everyday pictures in mind, that we come to the second part of our two-pronged response to this question, Where is the Place from which the blood works? We have already identified that the children of God are in bondage in the place of Egypt, living among a people whose leader has no respect, loyalty nor fear of the Sovereign God. The Omniscient God, in His wisdom, has decided to send a terrible plague to Egypt. It is a most destructive plague that will strike all who live in that place. Understand this fully. This plague of doom, death and destruction is passing through the place of Egypt, all of Egypt to be exact.

Now we pay specific attention to the blood and how God commanded His people to use the blood and where He instructed them to place the blood of the animal that was killed. God told Moses to tell the people exactly what they had to do, after they had killed the Passover animal. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. Exodus 12: 7.

First, we look at how this is to be done. They are to collect some of the blood in a basin and use hyssop as a paint brush. Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. Exodus 12: 22a. What a powerful God of all authority is our God. Destruction will pass over this place, but God has created a means of escape for His children.  Listen again to what this entails. They are to put some of the blood of the slaughtered Passover lamb, on the door frames of their homes.

Let’s think for a moment about the door of the Hebrew’s house. The door in itself is an ordinary door, nothing fancy or prominent about it. The door has absolutely no power in itself, as it now stands, to save anyone inside the house from the angel of death. Whether it is a small door for a small house, or a huge door for a big house, the door on its own has no power to keep the death angel away. This is what I mean. The door may be tightly shut up, locked and properly secured. It may even have a deadbolt or deadlock morticed into it, but that is still no block or deterrent for the striking hand of the angel of death. The only way that the door will become the perfect means whereby those within will be saved, is by the blood on the frames of the door. In other words, blood must be on the lintel and on the other two sides of the door.

For the first time, the place of the blood has fascinated me in no small measure. This has been a most compelling time for me, as it was being etched in me that the place of the blood was not on the door itself, but on the frame of the door. If you are like me, having this fact impressed upon you most markedly, then, together we will receive a revelation. We’re guaranteed to receive a Blood work in us, which will undoubtedly change us in our understanding and receiving of the grace of God, afforded us through His Son’s freely given Blood.

We hear again what the Lord God says about the blood of the sacrificed animals. On the same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destruction will touch you when I strike Egypt. Exodus 12: 12 – 13.

Note, blood on the houses means blood on the specific three-parts of the door mentioned. These blood-marked parts are readily seen as one is passing by. They are highly visible, not to be missed by the Lord’s angel of death. The text reports something most enlightening, which we are not allowed to simply gloss over. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are. We listen to the same verse as rendered by the KJV. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt. The blood is a sign, or token for the children of God, the Israelites.

What is this saying to us? What does it mean for you and for me? We may ask this question, as I have done. Is not the blood on the three places on the doorframe, a sign for the Lord? The blood is not a sign for God, but for you and for me. It is this sign of blood, on the lintel and side posts of the door, which lets us know three faith-nourishing and trust-strengthening things.

The blood is a sign of deliverance that we have been saved from God’s destruction.

The blood is a sign of assurance that we have received the Lord’s salvation.

The blood is a sign of presence that we have our Father’s Word with us.

Father thank You for the shed Blood of Jesus, Your Son. He is our life, our way and our true guidance. Amen!
