Backdrop 2 – The Food

ree

It is a time when, because of God’s prepared fields, food is available to all the people. At one time, in recent memory, it was a season of famine and drought. In other words, Bethlehem, the place of promised Bread was then experiencing Father God’s Sovereign, Almighty Hand of punishment and displeasure, occasioned by His children’s disobedience and rebelliousness.

In Bethlehem, at the time of Naomi’s return, accompanied by Ruth, God had prepared His harvest field. Yes, there was once a time of famine in Bethlehem. In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land, and a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab. Ruth 1: 1. Now, God’s Hand was turned back to His repentant people and, the LORD had come to the aid of his people by providing food for them. Ruth 1: 6b. God gives harvests and God withholds harvests.

Food, or bread is not just Father God’s promise to His children, but it is His responsibility as a Loving, Caring Father. Was it not God the Son Himself, who said this about God the Father? Jesus, in addressing, consoling and encouraging the people who are anxious about food, tells them not to worry, giving convincing proof why they are not to worry. Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6: 26. Jesus has categorically told us that Father God will feed us our daily bread, therefore we are not to live in worry and anxiety about our food.

Not only that, but if we truly believe by faith, what Jesus has told us about our Heavenly Father considering us much more highly than He does the birds of the air, then will this not be the case with you and me? Will it not be true then, when in faith, we follow as we have been taught in prayer to say, give us this day our daily bread, we are truly praying already answered prayer?

Note carefully also, we are not to live by bread alone, as our Lord, Master and Example has rightly exemplified, when tempted by the cunning deceiver. He boldly quoted this Scripture to the knowledgeable devil, who is versed in the Scriptures. Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Matthew 4: 4b. Are we therefore, not to be following our Master’s lead?

How does this translate to you today? This is the time of Holy Spirit outpouring. It is harvest time in the Holy Spirit, for He has fed all Jesus’ disciples, every single one of them present, with His Words. In short, they have all eaten as it were, from the mouth of God, His outpoured Words and they have become bold witnesses to Spirit and truth speaking. Note how, on that first Pentecost day, they fed scores of people the given, Living Word and had a bountiful harvest for Jesus.

What food for eating has the Holy Spirit prepared for you in this time? What are you being fed by Him? It is impossible to have the Spirit’s outpouring and not be fed His Words to feed others. Evidence speaks for itself. The words you feed to others show exactly what you have ingested from the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is feeding, even now, His good words to all and He is enabling the tongues of all the fed, to feed others. How is your feeding?

What food of harvest has the Holy Spirit prepared for you in this time?
