Sin Deceived Me

Our text clearly stated, it was sin that seized the opportunity afforded by the commandment, to deceive you, me and all others.

In concluding yesterday’s devotion, I confessed just what our Lord revealed to me about myself. I acknowledged that I knew our Lord commanded us to love Him and have no other gods beside Him. I did say that I would see others worshipping false gods, images and statues, proudly holding them high.

Proudly, I saw myself as different, as only worshipping the One, True, Living God. It was then that our Lord revealed to me truth, which I was not acknowledging. I was so deceived about myself and my relationship with Him, it was not funny. Our Holy Spirit showed me anxiety as my god, how I bow, bend and give obeisance to it, before Him. Has He revealed any such like to you?

You see, I never realized that the devil had me faithful in prayer, Bible reading, church going, singing and listening to religious choruses, giving sound advice to others about Jesus, telling others about Him, yet bearing perfect fruit to anxiety. I was so fully deceived, I was blinded to the fact that I was speaking the perfect words of Jesus, in mantra-like fashion, words such as, found in Matthew 11: 28 – 30. I would say to others and myself, about Jesus telling us, if we come to Him with all our burdens, anxieties and more, He will exchange them all for what is His, and give us rest. He even said that we will learn of Him.

Now the devil takes hold of this promise and makes me feel as though I have given all to Jesus, when in fact I have given most to Jesus and not all. The ugly, evil deceiver, has me strung up in anxiety and worry and keeps me serviced with the fact that I am looking to Jesus. O how so many of us are living in a fool’s paradise! O how so many of us are bearing the fruits of worry - physically and spiritually – while thinking that we are doing what our Lord commands. I tell you, this really shook me up big time.

Our Jesus never ever called us to worry. Worry, anxiety, fear are not of God. They are the most honest, truthful and perfect gifts and fruit of Satan. WOW! He surely is clever, too clever for me. What about you?

Sin and Satan are One and the same. We must understand and believe this to be factual, otherwise we will continue to be dreadfully deceived by Satan and sin. Sin is a deceiver for sin knows that through the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, all its powers have been made impotent. Sin has no more power to be our master, as we are told in Romans 6: 14 – 16. We are free from the bondage of law and Satan’s opportunity calls, for we are now under grace, because of Christ Jesus.

The question is therefore, why are believers still being deceived by sin? As a believer and disciple of Jesus, are you still being deceived by sin?
