My lord the king is like an angel of God; so do whatever you please.

How does this show any kind of treason? I hear you asking. We had the words of transgression spelt out boldly for us, so that it was easy to note the Darts of Transgression, those of betrayal and slander.

But Ziba my servant betrayed me. And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king. My lord the king is like an angel of God; so do whatever you please. But we do not see any treason here.

Good, for all who do not see, will now be made to see and understand fully, in simple, practical, accessible, attainable language.

Treason is the crime of attacking a state authority to which one owes allegiance. This typically includes acts such as participating in war against one’s native country or attempting to overthrow the government. Treason involves people spying on your country's military, its diplomats, or its secret service, for a hostile and foreign power. It includes attempting to kill one’s head of state. Such a person is known as a traitor, guilty of the crime of treason.

Who is Mephibosheth? He is royalty, one in line for being king, as he is the son of Jonathan, son of King Saul. After a bizarre turn of events, when both his father Jonathan and grandfather King Saul, had died in battle, should not Mephibosheth be king? But how could he, for he was crippled in both legs.

Reigning, through treachery and malicious evil, David’s wild and wicked son took over rule from his father and many people turned against David to side with his evil son Absalom.

Therein lies the dart of treason, for Ziba is telling the returned King David that Mephibosheth split loyalties and was siding with the self-designated and self-styled King Absalom. Now that is treason, I’m sure you’ll agree. Remember, Mephibosheth, is no ordinary person, crippled or not. He is royalty and the son of Jonathan. Jonathan is not just King Saul’s son, but he is David’s best friend, his soul-mate, so to speak. David is the present ruling king and this son of Jonathan, having pledged his loyalty to David as his sovereign ruler, now goes against him and sides with Absalom in his bid to overthrow David. This is what Ziba, no doubt, is relating to King David, thus this grandson of King Saul is accused of treason. What makes it worse, is that many people, many dignitaries have come out to welcome and greet David as king of Israel. Most noticeable however, is that Mephibosheth is not among the welcoming party. Hence King David’s question to him. Why didn’t you go with me, Mephibosheth? 2 Samuel 19: 25b.

Mephibosheth gives all power and authority over his life to King David. If he is guilty of the transgression of treason, then he will willingly receive whatever punishment the king metes out to him. This grandson of King Saul, views King David as “an angel of God” which, interpreted, means a messenger of God, so that he will only do to him what God wishes.

What about you? What darts of treason have you attacked the Father’s Kingdom, God’s Kingdom, the Kingdom of Heaven with? Do not carry guilt as an albatross around your neck. Jesus has said that none of us can serve two masters, for we will love one and hate the other. King Jesus is our Lord and Master and we are His subjects. However, too many of us have switched loyalties and serve masters of fear, greed, unbelief and doubt. This is high treason, for we have turned from honouring our Lord and Master, to show perfect loyalty to those other masters. Stop being deceived! Stop living a lie when it comes to your Jesus. It is nothing less than treason when we turn away from the will and way of the One to whom we have pledged allegiance, the One we publish and proclaim as our Master and Lord. Yet, when we are seen, we are in the kingdom of another, undermining our King, by giving fullest allegiance to others.

You believe this to be factual, for you know people - brothers and sisters in Christ - whose lives show not that Jesus is their ruling and reigning King. You can identify them at a glance, but there is no way that you see yourself in the same light. Treason takes place every second of the day, but you are convinced that this sin of transgression cannot be applied to you. So I thought also, until I was shown myself in the Lord’s Light.

Tomorrow I’ll share this.
