So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today – to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul – then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil. Deuteronomy 11: 13 – 14
These are the commands I am giving you today:-
You are to love the Lord your God. Notice carefully how very personal indeed, this is to His people. In a place where all kinds of people love many gods and where many gods are deified; in an environment where people live happily and contentedly with all kinds of gods, some they like and own and others they dislike and disown, you who are My children, need to know that I am your God. Love the Lord your God; not love the Lord their God, or love the Lord another person’s God. Love Me, for I am your God.
You are to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Take full note that God, who is faithful in giving His people His all, expects nothing less than their all. God does not encourage, sanction, nor accept what is some part thereof, regardless if it is the most part. God does not just want heart and soul service. He desires all your heart and all your soul. If you have given Him all, what is there remaining to give to anyone else or anything else? What is there to give to other gods? And most important and crucial is this. Having given all to the Lord, what is there remaining to feed the self with? It’s as straightforward as this. Give God all and none will be left back for self. If you do as the Lord has told you, He is faithful and just to keep His promises. Not one will be excluded, short-changed or delayed.
Be very sure of this, if there is any unbelief or doubt; wavering or procrastinating; questioning or wondering; second guessing or mind-tossing; you will not receive what God has promised. This is so because, we have been reliably informed in James 1: 6b - 7 that we must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord.
So what are we to expect when we obey these commands of the Lord?
I will send rain on your land in its season. The first thing that hits us is the personal pronoun, I. Father God wants His children to see Him as their caring and loving Father. He wants them to know His delight and pleasure for them. No one but God Himself will send them rain. He will take sole responsibility for irrigating their lands. He will send all the rain that is needed, so that He does not help them on one hand and leave them to ruin on the other.
Stop and Think! Do what God commands and you will receive abundance like nobody’s business. In its season, both the autumn and spring rains, I will send to you with command and instruction to the rains that they are there only to help you not hinder or harm you. The result of My sent rain in its season, will be your gathering of bountiful produce.
Stop and Think More! The children of God have not planted one kind of crop. Diversification is their manner, so they have different types of crops planted. There are crops which need different amounts of irrigation for example and yet God has taken the responsibility for irrigating all their crops. The special and specific needs of plants are taken into consideration by Creator God. This really blew my mind and made me see our Lord in light I never even considered. His autumn and spring rains will be so perfectly given, the children of God are guaranteed all their crops prospering.
Where am I Father? Where am I in this promise? If indeed I am Your garden, and in me You have planted different crops or gifts, and You have sent down Your rain on me also, both autumn and spring rains, what is my life bearing to offer to others?
We continue tomorrow as we conclude this week’s receiving.
