We conclude this mixed week, this week which closed the month of January 2024 and ushered in the month of February, with rising hopes and uncalculated belief in, Jesus! The Name that charms our fears and bids our sorrows cease. It is the distinct Name of Jesus and Jesus alone, which is music in the sinner’s ears. His Name is nothing short of guaranteed life, and health, and peace to all who abide in Him and whose word abides in them.
Let us always give God unending, ungrudged thanks for giving us His Son, His One and Only Son, Jesus, to be our Redeemer. Let us give Father God genuine, untainted thanks for taking Jesus, the Son of Man, back into heaven and sending us the Holy Spirit, our Counsellor, Comforter and Companion, to be in us and with us forever. Only Creator, Father God, will look upon this, our dark, wretched, sinful, wicked world of sin and give Himself in His Only Son, to be the Saviour of the world. No human, nor heavenly thanks and praise can ever adequately be expressed for such unimaginable grace. May our given Holy Spirit, teach us response please, in the unequivocal surrendering of our lives to God.
Holy Father, we die to You and in You, to receive life in You and of You. Amen!
Excitedly and joyfully we wait with expectation as this week’s meditations come to a close. We continue with the verse of Charles Wesley’s hymn, which has opened for us, this short month of February.
Jesus! The name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease;
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears,
'Tis life, and health, and peace.
The third thing that arrests me, is that the Work of Jesus is unhindered and limitless in its purview. Who can imagine how high, how deep or how broad is the gamut of His incredible works? This means that His Name is beyond doubt, sweet and calming to anyone who abides in Him. His unflawed and trusted Word thrives and bears fruit in them. If Jesus is our all in all, if indeed He controls us, then He makes it actual in us. He is never anything else but sweet music to the ears of the sinner. The Name of Jesus goes much further, to give: -
Life - to the spiritually dead and dying, those who live a losing life.
Health - to the sick, malnourished, hungry, weak and deceived in life.
Peace - to minds and hearts which have been ravaged and tormented by unrest, depression, anxiety, worry and turbulence of life.
In Christ there is abundant life; life in all its glory. I have come in order that you might have life – life in all its fullness. John 10: 10b. Do you know your fears, charmed? Do you know that your sorrows can cease? Is the Name of Jesus, sweet, wholesome music to your ears? Is the precious Name of Jesus, your abundant life, your promised health and given peace?
It can and must be, in the Name of our Triune God.
