Decision Point

Our Lord is using the understanding of, “Suddenly”, in the Christmas Narrative, to encourage us to make a decision on some unexpected Spiritual blessings, which He has showered upon us.

The problem with so many of us believers is that we tend to limit the working of Father, Sovereign God, who is so extravagant in His giving. The Advent narrative brings the extravagant giving of God to open light. When God wanted to give us the Gift of a Saviour, He never ever even thought of sending His best and most powerful angel. No! He gave His One and Only Beloved Son. Is that not the epitome of extravagant giving? So what if He wants to shower you with abundant blessings? Nothing in quantity nor quality, can ever rise to His Supreme Gifts of His Son and His Holy Spirit. Has He not already given them to you?

Here is this portion of the text for you to look at in the light of “Suddenly” and to listen with child-like faith to what is being offered you now. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel. As simplistic as it may sound and seem, the Lord’s seriously profound Word is there for us to accept or reject. His given Word is either accepted by you, as your choice, so that as you go His Way, you will bear His fruit, or you choose to turn your back on God’s Word and Way. To do so is to choose the other way, the deceiver’s way and be certain, you will bear his evil, wicked fruit, which always looks good and right and sensible to carnally self-seeking desires.

All that we are being shown in this Advent picture is this. God has sent down one blessing, one angel to the shepherds, who are now quite excited and thrilled about being given such a blessing, such favour, such privilege. They know that they are not of the aristocracy, whether secular or sacred, but they have received with open arms this gift from God. Suddenly, right there and then, if you please, God sends a whole host of angels to them. They are recipients of God’s extravagance.

Are you hearing? Do you see? God is an extravagant God and if He has decided to pour out His lavish, Spiritual riches upon you, who are you to think that it cannot be so? God knows exactly who you are. He is not deceived by you, nor anyone else, flesh or spirit. He knows what He is doing with you and to you.

Remember the shepherds, people of whom we really know nothing as pertaining to their religious status. Were they worshippers of God? Were they people who feared God and followed His commandments? Nothing of who they were mattered, except that they were shepherds and God chose to visit them in His angel, during the night-time hours.

You may think that you are not religious enough for God to favour you in this way. You may even think that there are others who are more religious than you are and who serve God more faithfully than you do. All that may be perfectly true, but never make these decisions based on who you are. Make them based on who God is.

Thank God for this exposing and accept all that He offers you in this time.
